8	MOURNING THE DEATH OF MRS. MARIE MCCONNELL-PERKINS.
9 
10	WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
11 death of Mrs. Marie "Ree Ree" McConnell-Perkins of Fairhope,
12 Alabama; and
13	WHEREAS, her passing leaves a void in the lives of
14 her loving family, many friends, and the entire community,
15 where she was highly regarded; and
16	WHEREAS, Mrs. McConnell-Perkins was born in 1938 to
17 Emmanuel Andrews and Thelma Lyons Andrews; and
18	WHEREAS, a native of Mobile, Alabama, who was very
19 proud of her Greek heritage, Mrs. McConnell-Perkins was known
20 as the "Golden Girl of Real Estate" in the 1970s, having
21 broken the "glass ceiling" for women in real estate; she was
22 named Realtor of the Year in 1983 and First Lady of Mobile in
23 1990, and her company was named Small Business of the Year by
24 the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce in 1991; her other
25 achievements throughout her life included being a past
26 President of the Penelope House, serving on the Board of
27 Directors for the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce and as the
Page 1 1 state and local President of the Women's Council of Realtors,
2 being selected to represent the ERA Real Estate Franchise as
3 the Ambassador to Indonesia and Singapore in 1995, and being
4 involved with many civic activities; after retiring from real
5 estate, she moved to Fairhope, where she worked as a volunteer
6 at Thomas Hospital for 15 years, served as the President of
7 the Ladies Cotillion, and was a very active member of the Nix
8 Center; she was a graduate of Covenant of Mercy Catholic Girls
9 School, where she impressed the Mercy Nuns, especially Sister
10 Mary Terisita and Sister Mary Robert, with her goal-setting
11 and work ethic; and
12	WHEREAS, a devoted Christian, loving parent, great
13 cook and hostess, dynamic public speaker, and treasured
14 friend, Mrs. McConnell-Perkins always said that her purpose in
15 life was to make other people feel good about themselves, and
16 she lived her purpose; she was also passionately active in her
17 church and loved spending time with her family and friends,
18 decorating, and traveling; and
19	WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her daughter,
20 Dana; granddaughter, Savannah; and grandson, David; and
21	WHEREAS, Mrs. McConnell-Perkins is survived by her
22 loving husband of almost 30 years, Captain Michael Reid
23 Perkins, USCG Retired; daughters, Angie McConnell Young
24 (Robby) and Robin Marie Wade (Mike); stepdaughters, Mindy
25 Houston (Greg) and Melissa Peterson; granddaughters, Carly
26 Marie Nelson (Kenny), Madison Houston, and Jennifer Houston;
27 grandsons, Jack Andrew Phillips (Danielle) and Grant McConnell
Page 2 1 Young (Courtney); and great-grandchildren, Kenly Marie Nelson,
2 Marie Claire Phillips, and Mason McConnell Young; and
3	WHEREAS, although her presence will be greatly
4 missed, the memory of Mrs. McConnell-Perkins will be cherished
5 in the hearts of all who knew and loved her; now therefore,
6	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
7 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Mrs. Marie "Ree
8 Ree" McConnell-Perkins is recorded with deep sadness, and this
9 resolution is offered in tribute to her life, along with
10 heartfelt sympathy to her family, whose grief is shared by
11 many.
