19	19	13 Relating to the City of Scottsboro in Jackson
20	20	14 County; to extend the terms of office of the Mayor of the City
21	21	15 of Scottsboro, the members of the City Council of the City of
22	22	16 Scottsboro, and the members of the Scottsboro City Board of
23	23	17 Education for the purpose of revising the election dates for
24	24	18 the general municipal election in the city.
25	25	19 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
26	26	20 Section 1. This act shall apply only to the City of
27	27	21 Scottsboro in Jackson County.
28	28	22 Section 2. The term of office of the Mayor of the
29	29	23 City of Scottsboro set to expire in 2024 and the terms of
30	30	24 office of the members of the City Council of the City of
31	31	25 Scottsboro set to expire in 2024 shall be extended by one
32	32	26 additional year to expire in 2025. A successor to the Office
33	33	27 of Mayor and successors to the offices of members of the city
34	34	Page 1 1 council whose terms expire in 2025, shall be elected at a
35	35	2 general municipal election to be held on the fourth Tuesday in
36	36	3 August 2025, and every four years thereafter.
37	37	4 Section 3. The terms of office of the members of the
38	38	5 City Council of the City of Scottsboro to be elected at the
39	39	6 general municipal election in 2022 shall be extended by one
40	40	7 additional year to expire in 2027. Successors to the offices
41	41	8 of members of the city council whose terms expire in 2027,
42	42	9 shall be elected at the general municipal election to be held
43	43	10 on the fourth Tuesday in August 2027, and every four years
44	44	11 thereafter.
45	45	12 Section 4. The terms of office of members of the
46	46	13 Scottsboro City Board of Education to be elected at the
47	47	14 general municipal election in 2022 shall be extended by one
48	48	15 additional year to expire in 2029. Successors to the offices
49	49	16 of members of the city board of education whose terms expire
50	50	17 in 2029 shall be elected at the general municipal election to
51	51	18 be held on the fourth Tuesday in August 2029, and every six
52	52	19 years thereafter.
53	53	20 Section 5. The terms of office of members of the
54	54	21 Scottsboro City Board of Education set to expire in either
55	55	22 2024 or 2026 shall be extended by one additional year to
56	56	23 expire in either 2025 or 2027, respectively. Successors to the
57	57	24 offices of members of the city board of education shall be
58	58	25 elected at the fourth Tuesday in either August in 2025 or
59	59	26 2027, in the year the term of the member expires, and every
60	60	27 six years thereafter.
61	61	Page 2 1 Section 6. After the effective date of this act, if
62	62	2 no candidate for mayor, member of the city council, or member
63	63	3 of the city board of education receives a majority of votes
64	64	4 cast in the regular municipal election, a second or run-off
65	65	5 election shall be held on the fourth Tuesday following the
66	66	6 regular election.
67	67	7 Section 7. All laws or parts of laws which conflict
68	68	8 with this act are repealed.
69	69	9 Section 8. This act shall become effective
70	70	10 immediately following its passage and approval by the
71	71	11 Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
