15-8 WHEREAS, it is with highest commendation that the
16-9 Legislature of Alabama renames a portion of Alabama State
17-10 Highway 279 from it's intersection of Alabama State Highway 79
18-11 and Goosepond Drive North to Ida Moody Road, in loving memory
19-12 of Dr. Wayne "Doc" Patterson III; and
20-13 WHEREAS, the renaming of this portion of the highway
21-14 is in tribute to Dr. Patterson who served Scottsboro, Alabama,
22-15 and the surrounding area as a Doctor of Dental Surgery for 39
23-16 years; he lovingly cared for his patients at Valley Dental
24-17 Implant Center; helping others and improving lives was his
25-18 favorite part of being a dentist; he was a pioneer in North
26-19 Alabama, among the first to begin doing dental implants in the
27-20 1980s; he was a shining example of a good human being, even
28-21 traveling across the globe on church missions to assist
29-22 impoverished countries and provide them with free dental care
30-23 and education; what brought him joy was serving others in
31-24 whatever capacity he could with a grateful and open heart; and

3738 5 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
3839 6 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That a portion of Alabama State
3940 7 Highway 279 from its intersection of Alabama State Highway 79
4041 8 and Goosepond Drive North to Ida Moody Road, in loving memory
4142 9 of Dr. Wayne "Doc" Patterson III, and the appropriate
4243 10 authorities are directed to erect and maintain signs and
4344 11 markers specifying this designation of honor as provided in
4445 12 this resolution.
4546 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Department of
4647 14 Transportation is requested to determine the cost of
4748 15 fabricating and erecting the appropriate signs and markers,
4849 16 consistent with applicable requirements and laws, and upon
4950 17 receiving funds from non-state sources covering that cost, to
5051 18 erect signs and markers as provided in this resolution in
5152 19 recognition of this memorial designation.
