House Bill 122 as reported by the Committee on Healthcare could increase the obligations of
the Alabama Medicaid Agency program and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)
by an undetermined amount for transplant services, dependent on the number of eligible
recipients with disabilities who would have otherwise not received transplant services.
The average Medicaid-funded transplant costs in the range of $330,000 to $370,000 with the
state share funded by UAB.
