15+AN ACT
1416 Relating to St. Clair County; to provide for
1517 qualifications of the sheriff; and to require completion of
1618 continuing education.
1719 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
1820 Section 1. This act shall only apply to St. Clair
1921 County.
2022 Section 2. After the effective date of this act, any
2123 person qualifying for election to the office of sheriff or any
2224 person appointed to serve as sheriff, in addition to any other
2325 qualifications required by law, shall meet all of the
2426 following qualifications:
2527 (1) The person is a citizen of the United States.
2628 (2) The person has been a resident of the county for at
2729 least one year before the qualification date or being
2830 appointed to the office.
2931 (3) The person has been awarded a high school diploma
3032 or GED equivalence.
3133 (4) The person is 30 years of age or older.
3234 (5) The person has at least five years of experience as
3335 a full-time law enforcement officer as certified by the
34-Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission.
35-(6) The person has never been convicted of a felony.
36-Section 3. Upon election or appointment, the sheriff
37-shall annually attend a minimum of 12 hours of executive level

66+(6) The person has never been convicted of a felony.
67+Section 3. Upon election or appointment, the sheriff
68+shall annually attend a minimum of 12 hours of executive level
6769 continuing education approved by the Alabama Sheriffs
6870 Association or the National Sheriffs' Association. Proof of
6971 attendance shall be filed with the judge of probate of the
7072 county by December 31 of each year.
7173 Section 4. This act shall become effective on the first
7274 day of the third month following its passage and approval by
7375 the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
