14 | 16 | Relating to St. Clair County; to provide for | |
15 | 17 | qualifications of the sheriff; and to require completion of | |

17 | 19 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: | |
18 | 20 | Section 1. This act shall only apply to St. Clair | |
19 | 21 | County. | |
20 | 22 | Section 2. After the effective date of this act, any | |
21 | 23 | person qualifying for election to the office of sheriff or any | |
22 | 24 | person appointed to serve as sheriff, in addition to any other | |
23 | 25 | qualifications required by law, shall meet all of the | |
24 | 26 | following qualifications: | |
25 | 27 | (1) The person is a citizen of the United States. | |
26 | 28 | (2) The person has been a resident of the county for at | |
27 | 29 | least one year before the qualification date or being | |
28 | 30 | appointed to the office. | |
29 | 31 | (3) The person has been awarded a high school diploma | |
30 | 32 | or GED equivalence. | |
31 | 33 | (4) The person is 30 years of age or older. | |
32 | 34 | (5) The person has at least five years of experience as | |
33 | 35 | a full-time law enforcement officer as certified by the | |
34 | - | Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission. | |
35 | - | (6) The person has never been convicted of a felony. | |
36 | - | Section 3. Upon election or appointment, the sheriff | |
37 | - | shall annually attend a minimum of 12 hours of executive level | |
