House Bill 177as introduced provides for the conversion of certain municipal waterworks boards to
regional boards, which would decrease obligations of any converted boards by an estimated $96,000
annually by providing that regional board members serve without compensation, instead of receiving up
to $1,000 per month in compensation, as provided by current law. This bill could further decrease the
obligations of any converted by an undetermined amount dependent due to the decrease in membership
of the board from eight members to seven and the corresponding decrease in related reimbursement for
necessary expenses of board-related costs. This bill could increase the obligations of any such converted
board by an undetermined amount dependent on the cost of employing a chief executive office and
having its financial statements reviewed.
