16 | 16 | Relating to Calhoun County; to authorize the sheriff | |
17 | 17 | and commissioner of licenses to obtain and use a credit card | |
18 | 18 | for official uses. | |
19 | 19 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: | |
20 | 20 | Section 1. (a) For the purposes of this section, the | |
21 | 21 | term "credit card" means a line of credit issued by a domestic | |
22 | 22 | lender or credit card bank. | |
23 | 23 | (b) To provide for convenience in making purchases of | |
24 | 24 | tangible personal property or services approved by the | |
25 | 25 | sheriff, in Calhoun County the sheriff may establish | |
26 | 26 | procedures to make certain purchases through the use of a | |
27 | 27 | credit card issued to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office. The | |
28 | 28 | sheriff shall adopt written policies and procedures governing | |
29 | 29 | the use of credit cards which, at a minimum, shall include | |
30 | 30 | each of the following: | |
31 | 31 | (1) A monetary limit on the amount of any individual | |
32 | 32 | purchase which may be made with a credit card. | |
33 | 33 | (2) A monetary limit on the total monthly amount that | |
34 | 34 | may be purchased with a credit card taking into consideration | |
35 | 35 | the monetary limit of the fund to be used to pay any credit | |
36 | - | card charges. | |
37 | - | (3) Procedures to ensure that the sheriff has sole | |
38 | - | access to any credit card, credit card number, access code, or | |
39 | - | security code. | |

76 | 76 | paid in full on a timely basis each month to avoid service | |
77 | 77 | charges, late fees, or interest payments. | |
78 | 78 | (c) The sheriff shall select the credit card provider | |
79 | 79 | or providers taking into consideration each of the following: | |
80 | 80 | (1) Whether the credit card issuer requires an annual | |
81 | 81 | fee to use the account. | |
82 | 82 | (2) Whether the credit card issuer offers rewards or | |
83 | 83 | rebates based upon purchases made using the account. | |
84 | 84 | (3) The interest rates, service charges, finance | |
85 | 85 | charges, or late fees that may be assessed in the event a bill | |
86 | 86 | from the credit card issuer is paid late or the balance is not | |
87 | 87 | paid in full each month. | |
88 | 88 | (4) Whether penalties or fees will be assessed against | |
89 | 89 | the sheriff in the event he or she decides to terminate the | |
90 | 90 | credit card account. | |
91 | 91 | (5) Any other consideration deemed relevant by the | |
92 | 92 | sheriff. | |
93 | - | (d) In the event that a credit card provides rewards or | |
94 | - | rebates based upon the use of the card, any rewards or rebates | |
