14-Enrolled, An Act,
15-Relating to motor vehicle registration; to amend
16-Section 32-6-650, Code of Alabama 1975; to add the U.S. Marine
17-Corps and the U.S. Space Force to the list of service branches
18-for which a military distinctive license plate is available;
19-and to repeal Section 32-6-640, Code of Alabama 1975.
20-BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
21-Section 1. Section 32-6-650, Code of Alabama 1975, is
22-amended to read as follows:
23-"§32-6-650
24-(a) Notwithstanding Sections 32-6-64, 32-6-67, and
25-32-6-68, upon application and submission of the appropriate
26-military identification card, Leave and Earnings Statement, or
27-DD214 form to the judge of probate, license commissioner, or
28-other license plate issuing official, compliance with motor
29-vehicle registration and licensing laws, payment of regular
30-fees required by law for license tags or plates, and payment
31-of an additional fee of three dollars ($3) for the initial
32-issuance of the tag for a private passenger, pickup truck, or
33-pleasure motor vehicle, the owner of a motor vehicle who is a
34-resident of Alabama and an active or retired member of the
35-United States Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marine
36-Corps, Space Force, or Merchant MarinesMarine or has been
37-honorably discharged from any of these branches of service
38-shall be issued a military distinctive license plate
39-designating the appropriate branch of service. The tag or

14+Under existing law, a resident of Alabama who is
15+an active or retired member of the United States Air
16+Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine, or
17+has been honorably discharged from any of these
18+branches of service may be issued a military
19+distinctive license plate designating the appropriate
20+branch of service for an additional fee of three
21+dollars.
22+Under existing law, residents of Alabama who are
23+active or retired members or honorably discharged from
24+the U.S. Marine Corps may be issued a military
25+distinctive license plate designating the U.S. Marine
26+Corps for an additional fee of twenty-five dollars.
27+This bill would allow the United States Marine
28+Corps military distinctive license plate to be issued
29+in the same manner as the other military distinctive
30+license plates for an additional fee of three dollars.
31+This bill would add the United States Space
32+Force as a branch of service eligible for a military
33+distinctive license plate.

71+BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

70121 with either a conventional or new United States Air Force,
71122 Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Space Force, or
72123 Merchant Marine tag or plate.
73124 (b) Payment of required license fees and taxes for the
74125 years during which a new tag or plate is not issued shall be
75126 evidenced as provided in Section 32-6-63.
76127 (c) The United States Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast
77128 Guard, Marine Corps, Space Force, or Merchant Marine military
78129 distinctive license plates shall be designed by the Department
79130 of Veterans Affairs and approved by the Department of Revenue.
80131 (d) The tags or plates shall be issued, printed, and
81132 processed like other distinctive plates provided for by law.
82133 (e) The Department of Revenue may adopt any rules
83134 necessary to administer this section."
84135 Section 2. Section 32-6-640, Code of Alabama 1975, is
85136 repealed.
86137 Section 3. This act shall become effective on January
87138 1, 2024, following its passage and approval by the Governor,
88139 or its otherwise becoming law.
