1518 Relating to Franklin County; to provide for the annual
1619 expense allowance and salary and other benefits for the
1720 coroner; and to further authorize the Franklin County
1821 Commission to appropriate and expend funds for the operation
1922 of the office of the coroner.
2023 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
2124 Section 1. (a) Effective October 1, 2023, the Coroner
2225 of Franklin County shall receive an expense allowance in the
2326 amount of nine thousand seven hundred dollars ($9,700) per
2427 annum, which shall be in addition to all other expense
2528 allowances, compensation, or salary provided by law. The
2629 expense allowance shall be paid in equal monthly installments
2730 from the general fund of the county.
2831 (b) Effective for the term of office beginning after
2932 the 2026 General Election, the expense allowance provided for
3033 in subsection (a) shall be null and void and the Coroner of
3134 Franklin County shall receive an annual salary of ten thousand
3235 dollars ($10,000), to be paid in equal monthly installments
3336 from the general fund of the county. The salary in this
3437 subsection shall be the total compensation paid to the
35-coroner, subject to the adjustments provided in subsection
36-(c).
37-(c) In addition to the salary provided in subsection
38-(b), the salary of the coroner shall be increased by any
39-uniform increases in compensation granted equally to all
40-county employees by the Franklin County Commission. In

67+coroner, subject to the adjustments provided in subsection
68+(c).
69+(c) In addition to the salary provided in subsection
70+(b), the salary of the coroner shall be increased by any
71+uniform increases in compensation granted equally to all
72+county employees by the Franklin County Commission. In
7073 addition, the coroner may participate in the county health
7174 insurance plan and any retirement plan provided to county
7275 employees under the same terms as county employees.
7376 (d) The Franklin County Commission may appropriate and
7477 expend county funds for the coroner's salary, benefits, and
7578 expenses necessary for the operation of the office of the
7679 coroner. The commission may provide the coroner with expenses
7780 for the operation of a motor vehicle or may furnish the
7881 coroner with the use of a county vehicle.
7982 (e) The Franklin County Commission may authorize the
8083 coroner to appoint one or more deputy coroners to perform the
8184 duties of the coroner in the absence of the coroner and
8285 provide for the compensation of any deputy coroner appointed.
8386 Section 2. All laws or parts of laws which conflict
8487 with this act are repealed. Act 1185, 1969 Regular Session
8588 (Acts 1969, p. 2213), as amended by Act 90-461, 1990 Regular
8689 Session (Acts 1990, p. 653); Act 491, 1971 Regular Session
8790 (Acts 1971, p. 1205); and Act 446, 1973 Regular Session (Acts
8891 1973, p. 636), are expressly repealed.
8992 Section 3. This act shall become effective on October
9093 1, 2023, following its passage and approval by the Governor,
9194 or its otherwise becoming law.
