17+AN ACT
1518 Relating to Colbert County; to amend Section 45-17-60,
1619 Code of Alabama 1975, to provide for the expense allowance,
1720 annual salary, and other benefits for the coroner of Colbert
1821 County; and to authorize the Colbert County Commission to
1922 appropriate and expend funds for the operation of the Office
2023 of Coroner of Colbert County.
2124 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
2225 Section 1. Section 45-17-60, Code of Alabama 1975, is
2326 amended to read as follows:
2427 "ยง45-17-60
2528 (a) The Coroner of Colbert County shall be entitled to
2629 receive an additional expense allowance in the amount of ten
2730 thousand dollars ($10,000) fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000)
2831 per year to be paid in equal monthly installments out of the
2932 county general fund. This expense allowance shall be in
3033 addition to any and all other compensation, salary, and
3134 expense allowances provided for by law.
3235 (b) Effective for the term of office beginning after
3336 the 2026 General Election, the expense allowance provided for
3437 in subsection (a) shall be void and the Coroner of Colbert
35-County shall receive an annual salary of twenty-one thousand
36-dollars ($21,000) to be paid in equal monthly installments
37-from the general fund of the county. The salary in this
38-subsection shall be the total compensation paid to the
39-coroner, subject to the adjustments provided in subsection
40-(c).

67+County shall receive an annual salary of twenty-one thousand
68+dollars ($21,000) to be paid in equal monthly installments
69+from the general fund of the county. The salary in this
70+subsection shall be the total compensation paid to the
71+coroner, subject to the adjustments provided in subsection
72+(c).
7073 (c) In addition to the salary provided in subsection
7174 (b), the salary of the coroner shall be increased by any
7275 uniform increases in compensation granted equally to all
7376 county employees by the Colbert County Commission. In
7477 addition, the coroner may participate in the county health
7578 insurance plan and any retirement plan provided to county
7679 employees under the same terms as county employees.
7780 (d) The Colbert County Commission may appropriate and
7881 expend county funds for the coroner's salary, benefits, and
7982 expenses necessary for the operation of the office of the
8083 coroner. The Colbert County Commission may provide the coroner
8184 with expenses for the operation of a motor vehicle or may
8285 furnish the coroner with the use of a county vehicle.
8386 (e) The Colbert County Commission may authorize the
8487 coroner to appoint one or more deputy coroners to perform the
8588 duties of the coroner in the absence of the coroner and
8689 provide for the compensation of any deputy coroner appointed. "
8790 Section 2. This act shall become effective immediately
8891 following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its
8992 otherwise becoming law.
