Enrolled, An Act,
Relating to Winston County, to authorize the sheriff to
conduct fundraising events; and to provide for the
distribution of the proceeds.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. (a) In Winston County, the sheriff may
conduct fundraising events, including, but not limited to,
rodeos and fishing tournaments, and may use the proceeds and
profits from the events for any lawful purpose relating to the
operation of the office of the sheriff, or for distribution to
charitable organizations, including volunteer fire
departments.
(b) The provisions of this section are remedial and
curative and any actions taken by the sheriff in conformance
with subsection (a) are ratified and confirmed.
Section 2. Section 1 of this act shall be operative
only if approved by the majority of the qualified electors in
Winston county who vote thereon at the next general, primary,
or special election held in the county. The election shall be
held, conducted, and the results canvassed in the same manner
as the county elections. Notice of the election shall be given
by the judge of probate. On the ballots used at the election,
the proposition to be voted on shall be stated substantially
as follows:
"Do you favor the local law authorizing the Sheriff of
Winston County to conduct fundraising events, including, but
not limited to, rodeos and fishing tournaments, and to use the

proceeds and profits from the events for any lawful purpose
relating to the operation of the office of the sheriff, or for
distribution to charitable organizations, including volunteer

Section 3. This act shall become effective immediately
following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its
otherwise becoming law.
