18 | 18 | | death on March 30, 2023, of Lieutenant Colonel(Retired) Dr. |

19 | 19 | | Richard "Doc" Goodwin of Huntsville, Alabama, at the age of |

20 | 20 | | 74 years; and |

21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of his |
---|
22 | 22 | | loving family, many friends and the entire community where |
---|
23 | 23 | | he was highly regarded; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Goodwin's passion for continued |
---|
25 | 25 | | education and community service never waned; he graduated |
---|
26 | 26 | | from the United States Military Academy (West Point) in |
---|
27 | 27 | | 1971, and transferred service to the United States Air |
---|
28 | 28 | | Force; later, he taught Physics at West Point and attended |
---|
29 | 29 | | the prestigious Air War College in Montgomery, Alabama; he |
---|
30 | 30 | | served 20 years in the United States Air Force, retired, and |
---|
31 | 31 | | continued his service to his country as a government civil |
---|
32 | 32 | | servant working for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in |
---|
33 | 33 | | Huntsville, Alabama; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, he moved his family to Belgium to work at |
---|
35 | 35 | | NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe Headquarters; |
---|
36 | 36 | | after his tour ended, he returned to work for the MDA in |
---|
37 | 37 | | Huntsville, Alabama; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, as a teenager, Dr. Goodwin achieved |

74 | 74 | | WHEREAS, survivors include his beloved wife of 50 |

75 | 75 | | years, Linda; children, Katie (Pete) and James (Lori); |

76 | 76 | | grandchildren, Amelia and Ian; brother, Hugh Goodwin |

77 | 77 | | (Marianne); and a host of other relative and friends; and |

78 | 78 | | WHEREAS, although his presence will truly missed, the |
---|
79 | 79 | | memory of Dr. Goodwin shall be cherished in the hearts of |
---|
80 | 80 | | all who knew and loved him; now therefore, |

81 | 81 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH |

82 | 82 | | HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of Lieutenant |

84 | 84 | | sadness and this resolution is offered in tribute to his |

85 | 85 | | life and with heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose grief |
