1313 SYNOPSIS:
1414 This bill would provide that when a nonprofit
1515 veterans' organization, by means of a reversionary
1616 clause in a deed, acquires a possessory interest in a
1717 state armory building, with the intent to use the
1818 facility to further the organization's support of
1919 veterans, active duty servicemembers, and their
2020 dependents, the building shall be deemed to be in
2121 compliance with any applicable state or local building
2222 codes for not less than 10 calendar years from the date
2323 of acquisition.

2727 Relating to building codes; to provide a limited
2828 exemption to applicable building codes for certain nonprofit
2929 veterans' organizations that acquire certain buildings under
3030 certain conditions.
3131 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
3232 Section 1. (a) As used in this section, "nonprofit
3333 veterans' organization" means any nonprofit organization that
3434 has a tax-exempt status under 26 U.S.C. § 501(c)(3) and, as

6464 its primary purpose, supports veterans and active duty
6565 servicemembers, as defined pursuant to 50 U.S.C. § 3911, and
6666 their dependents.
6767 (b) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, when a
6868 nonprofit veterans' organization, by means of a reversionary
6969 clause in a deed, acquires a possessory interest in a state
7070 armory building, with the intent to use the facility to
7171 further the organization's support of veterans, active duty
7272 servicemembers, and their dependents, the building shall be
7373 deemed to be in compliance with any applicable state or local
7474 building codes for not less than 10 calendar years from the
7575 date of acquisition.
7676 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first
7777 day of the third month following its passage and approval by
7878 the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
