14 | 14 | | This bill would provide that when a nonprofit |

15 | 15 | | veterans' organization, by means of a reversionary |
---|
16 | 16 | | clause in a deed, acquires a possessory interest in a |
---|
17 | 17 | | state armory building, with the intent to use the |
---|
18 | 18 | | facility to further the organization's support of |
---|
19 | 19 | | veterans, active duty servicemembers, and their |
---|
20 | 20 | | dependents, the building shall be deemed to be in |
---|
21 | 21 | | compliance with any applicable state or local building |
---|
22 | 22 | | codes for not less than 10 calendar years from the date |
---|
23 | 23 | | of acquisition. |

31 | 31 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: |

32 | 32 | | Section 1. (a) As used in this section, "nonprofit |
---|
33 | 33 | | veterans' organization" means any nonprofit organization that |
---|
34 | 34 | | has a tax-exempt status under 26 U.S.C. § 501(c)(3) and, as |

65 | 65 | | servicemembers, as defined pursuant to 50 U.S.C. § 3911, and |

67 | 67 | | (b) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, when a |
---|
68 | 68 | | nonprofit veterans' organization, by means of a reversionary |
---|
69 | 69 | | clause in a deed, acquires a possessory interest in a state |
---|
70 | 70 | | armory building, with the intent to use the facility to |
---|
71 | 71 | | further the organization's support of veterans, active duty |
---|
72 | 72 | | servicemembers, and their dependents, the building shall be |
---|
73 | 73 | | deemed to be in compliance with any applicable state or local |
---|
74 | 74 | | building codes for not less than 10 calendar years from the |
---|
75 | 75 | | date of acquisition. |
