	17	+	AN ACT
15	18		Relating to Lauderdale County, to amend Section
16	19		45-39-100, Code of Alabama 1975, to provide further for the
17	20		compensation of the members and president of the county board
18	21		of education; and to provide for the election and term of the
19	22		president of the board.
20	23		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
21	24		Section 1. Section 45-39-100 of the Code of Alabama
22	25		1975, is amended to read as follows:
23	26		"§45-39-100
24	27		(a)(1) Each member of the Lauderdale County Board of
25	28		Education shall receive an expense allowance of two hundred
26	29		dollars ($200) per month which shall be paid out of the
27	30		Lauderdale County general school fund and which shall be in
28	31		addition to any and all other compensation, expenses, and
29	32		allowances provided for by law.
30	33		(2)a. Each member of the Lauderdale County Board of
31	34		Education shall be entitled to an additional expense allowance
32	35		of seven hundred dollars ($700) per month which shall be paid
33	36		out of the Lauderdale County general school fund and which
34	37		shall be in addition to any and all other compensation,
35		-	expenses, salary, and allowances provided for by law.
36		-	b. Beginning when the next term of office of a board
37		-	member commences after the effective date of the act adding
38		-	this amendatory language, the additional expense allowance
39		-	provided for in paragraph a. shall be converted to a salary

	68	+	b. Beginning when the next term of office of a board
	69	+	member commences after the effective date of the act adding
	70	+	this amendatory language, the additional expense allowance
	71	+	provided for in paragraph a. shall be converted to a salary
	72	+	for all members of the board.
70	73		(b)(1) The members of the County Board of Education of
71	74		Lauderdale County shall each receive from the public school
72	75		funds of the county twenty-five dollars ($25) for each meeting
73	76		attended, three hundred dollars ($300) per month, and their
74	77		actual traveling and hotel expenses incurred in attending
75	78		meetings of the board and transacting the business of the
76	79		board. The members of the board shall not be paid for
77	80		attending more than 24 meetings in any one year. Their
78	81		compensation and expenses shall be paid in like manner as
79	82		provided for the payment of the compensation of teachers. The
80	83		compensation and expenses provided herein and the expense
81	84		allowance provided in subsection (a), shall be the total
82	85		compensation paid the members and shall be in lieu of all
83	86		other compensation provided by law.
84	87		(2) The provisions of this subsection are curative and
85	88		remedial and shall have retroactive effect to November 1,
86	89		1984, and any actions taken or payments made in accordance
87	90		with this subsection since that date are hereby ratified,
88	91		validated, and confirmed.
89	92		(c) The President of the Lauderdale County Board of
90	93		Education shall be elected annually from the membership of the
91	94		board at the first meeting of the board in November after
92		-	newly elected members have assumed office. Commencing with the
93		-	election of the next president of the board after the
94		-	effective date of the act adding this amendatory language, the
95		-	president shall receive an additional five hundred dollars
96		-	($500) per month while serving as president. "
97		-	Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first

	128	+	($500) per month while serving as president. "
	129	+	Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first
127	130		day of the third month following its passage and approval by
128	131		the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
