17	17	AN ACT
18	18	Relating to Macon County; to provide for the salary of
19	19	the judge of probate; to ratify and confirm prior payments to
20	20	the judge of probate prior to the effective date of this act;
21	21	and to repeal Section 45-44-84 of the Code of Alabama 1975,
22	22	relating to Macon County and the salary of the judge of
23	23	probate.
24	24	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
25	25	Section 1. (a) Effective October 1, 2023, the salary of
26	26	the Judge of Probate of Macon County shall be eighty-nine
27	27	thousand dollars ($89,000) per year, payable in equal monthly
28	28	installments from the general fund of the county. The salary
29	29	provided by this act, shall be in lieu of any salary, expense
30	30	allowance, or other compensation previously provided by law
31	31	except the judge of probate shall continue to receive the
32	32	expense allowance provided to county officers pursuant to Act
33	33	2017-463 of the 2017 Regular Session, now appearing as Section
34	34	45-44-11.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975.
35	35	(b) Effective October 1, 2024, and thereafter, the
36	36	salary of the judge of probate shall be increased to include
37	37	the amount of any cost-of-living raises or other uniform

67	67	increases in compensation granted to all county employees.
68	68	(c) Any prior payments made to the Judge of Probate of
69	69	Macon County by Macon County beginning on January 15, 2019,
70	70	until discontinued by the county, which payments were
71	71	incorrectly paid through no fault of the judge of probate, are
72	72	ratified and confirmed.
73	73	Section 2. All laws or parts of laws which conflict
74	74	with this act are repealed. Section 45-44-84 of the Code of
75	75	Alabama 1975, relating to Macon County and the salary of the
76	76	judge of probate, is expressly repealed.
77	77	Section 3. This act shall become effective immediately
78	78	following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its
79	79	otherwise becoming law.
