21 | 23 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: |

22 | 24 | | Section 1. Section 45-16-62, Code of Alabama 1975, is |
---|
23 | 25 | | amended to read as follows: |

25 | 27 | | (a) The coroner shall be elected at the general |
---|
26 | 28 | | election and every four years thereafter, and shall serve for |
---|
27 | 29 | | a term of four years. |
---|
28 | 30 | | (b) The coroner shall appoint a chief deputy coroner |
---|
29 | 31 | | from the judicial circuit division of the county where the |
---|
30 | 32 | | elected coroner does not reside. The chief deputy coroner |
---|
31 | 33 | | shall be entitled to compensation in the amount of four |
---|
32 | 34 | | hundred dollars ($400) per month . The coroner may appoint one |
---|
33 | 35 | | deputy coroner. The deputy coroner shall be entitled to |
---|
34 | 36 | | compensation in the amount of three hundred dollars ($300) per |
---|
70 | 72 | | or appointed on or after September 22, 2015, shall receive an |
---|
71 | 73 | | annual base salary of twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) |
---|
72 | 74 | | per year, which shall be paid in the same manner and at the |
---|
73 | 75 | | same time as other county employees. |

74 | 76 | | (2) The annual salary provided in subdivision (1) shall |

75 | 77 | | continue to be adjusted thereafter as authorized in Chapter 2A |

77 | 79 | | (3) If there is a break in continuous service as |

78 | 80 | | coroner on or after September 22, 2015, upon reappointment or |

79 | 81 | | reelection as coroner, he or she shall receive the base salary |

80 | 82 | | as provided in subdivision (1), which may be adjusted as |

81 | 83 | | provided in subdivision (2). |

82 | 84 | | (d) The coroner may participate in the same retirement |

83 | 85 | | system and the same insurance plan in the same manner and upon |
---|
84 | 86 | | the same terms and conditions as any other employee of the |
---|

86 | 88 | | (e) The Coffee County Commission shall pay all expenses |

87 | 89 | | incurred or required by the coroner , and chief deputy coroner , |
---|
88 | 90 | | and deputy coroner to perform the duties of his or her office, |

89 | 91 | | including travel expenses pursuant to state-approved rates for |
---|
90 | 92 | | state employees, radio and paging equipment and maintenance |
---|
91 | 93 | | costs, and association dues and continuing education expenses. |
