24	23		SJR___ HONORING THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL
25	24		AND REAFFIRMING THE BONDS OF FRIENDSHIP AND COOPERATION
26	25		BETWEEN ALABAMA AND ISRAEL.
27	26		WHEREAS, on May 14, 1948, the people of Israel
28	27		proclaimed the establishment of the sovereign and
29	28		independent State of Israel and the United States
30	29		immediately recognized Israel and established full
31	30		diplomatic relations; and
32	31		WHEREAS, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the
33	32		fulfillment of the dream and longing of the Jewish people to
34	33		regain independence in their ancestral homeland, whose roots
35	34		include their historic sovereignty in the Land of Israel,
36	35		established over 3,000 years ago with the City of Jerusalem
37	36		then, as it is now, the capital of the world's only
38	37		sovereign Jewish state; and
39	38		WHEREAS, Alabama and Israel share a commitment to
40	39		deeply held common values from the history of each shaped
41	40		greatly through the influence of Biblical faith, in addition
42	41		to many nationally shared values as the only democratic ally
43	42		of the United States in the Middle East; and
44	43		WHEREAS, Israel is one of the smallest countries in
45	44		the world, yet it is also one of the world leaders in
46	45		technology and innovation, helping to face global challenges
47	46		through pioneering research and development in sustainable

78	77		WHEREAS, since its establishment, the modern State of
79	78		Israel has rebuilt the nation, forged a vibrant democracy,
80	79		developed a dynamic society, and created a thriving
81	80		economic, political, cultural, and intellectual life despite
82	81		heavy burdens of war and terrorism; and
83	82		WHEREAS, the State of Alabama is an unequivocal
84	83		supporter of the State of Israel and its right to defend
85	84		itself against terror and any threat to its security; and
86	85		WHEREAS, Israel's peace with Egypt and Jordan and the
87	86		signing of the recent Abraham Accords paves the way for
88	87		further regional stability and a new era of opportunity
89	88		between Israel and her Arab neighbors and gives hope for a
90	89		better future for all; and
91	90		WHEREAS, the State of Alabama remains committed to a
92	91		future where the State of Israel and all her neighbors can
93	92		live in peace, with mutual recognition of each other's
94	93		dignity and sovereignty; and
95	94		WHEREAS, in the midst of World War II, when the axis
96	95		powers were not only waging world war against America and
97	96		Europe, but also seeking the mass murder and systematic
98	97		extermination of the Jewish people, Alabama led the nation
99	98		in an official call for the establishment of the Jewish
100	99		state in its ancestral homeland, five years before Israel
101	100		was reborn as a nation; and
102	101		WHEREAS, this year also marks the 80th anniversary of
103	102		that historic resolution, Act 144, Senate Joint Resolution,
104	103		1943 Regular Session, and the beginning of a long history of

135	134		support from the State of Alabama for the State of Israel;

137	136		WHEREAS, the strong bond between Alabama and Israel
138	137		continues to be expressed in growing political, cultural,
139	138		economic, academic, business, and community partnerships for
140	139		the mutual benefit of our people; now therefore,
141	140		BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
142	141		HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the State of Alabama:
143	142		(1) Honors and celebrates the historic significance
144	143		of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the State of
145	144		Israel, becoming once again the world's only nation state of
146	145		the Jewish people, in its ancestral homeland with Jerusalem,
147	146		once again, its eternal undivided capital.
148	147		(2) Recognizes and supports Israel in its legal,
149	148		historical, and moral right to independence and
150	149		self-determination.
151	150		(3) Commends the people of Israel for their
152	151		remarkable achievements, resilience, and determination in
153	152		building a new and flourishing state in the face of hatred,
154	153		terrorism, hostility, and belligerence by neighbors and
155	154		others in the international community.
156	155		(4) Reaffirms the historic 1943 joint resolution from
157	156		Alabama supporting the establishment of the Jewish state and
158	157		homeland in Israel and celebrates the historic significance
159	158		of the 80th anniversary of its passing.
160	159		(5) Commits to the continued friendship, cooperation,
161	160		and strengthening of the relationship between Alabama and
