2423 SJR___ HONORING THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL
2524 AND REAFFIRMING THE BONDS OF FRIENDSHIP AND COOPERATION
2625 BETWEEN ALABAMA AND ISRAEL.
2726 WHEREAS, on May 14, 1948, the people of Israel
2827 proclaimed the establishment of the sovereign and
2928 independent State of Israel and the United States
3029 immediately recognized Israel and established full
3130 diplomatic relations; and
3231 WHEREAS, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the
3332 fulfillment of the dream and longing of the Jewish people to
3433 regain independence in their ancestral homeland, whose roots
3534 include their historic sovereignty in the Land of Israel,
3635 established over 3,000 years ago with the City of Jerusalem
3736 then, as it is now, the capital of the world's only
3837 sovereign Jewish state; and
3938 WHEREAS, Alabama and Israel share a commitment to
4039 deeply held common values from the history of each shaped
4140 greatly through the influence of Biblical faith, in addition
4241 to many nationally shared values as the only democratic ally
4342 of the United States in the Middle East; and
4443 WHEREAS, Israel is one of the smallest countries in
4544 the world, yet it is also one of the world leaders in
4645 technology and innovation, helping to face global challenges
4746 through pioneering research and development in sustainable

7877 WHEREAS, since its establishment, the modern State of
7978 Israel has rebuilt the nation, forged a vibrant democracy,
8079 developed a dynamic society, and created a thriving
8180 economic, political, cultural, and intellectual life despite
8281 heavy burdens of war and terrorism; and
8382 WHEREAS, the State of Alabama is an unequivocal
8483 supporter of the State of Israel and its right to defend
8584 itself against terror and any threat to its security; and
8685 WHEREAS, Israel's peace with Egypt and Jordan and the
8786 signing of the recent Abraham Accords paves the way for
8887 further regional stability and a new era of opportunity
8988 between Israel and her Arab neighbors and gives hope for a
9089 better future for all; and
9190 WHEREAS, the State of Alabama remains committed to a
9291 future where the State of Israel and all her neighbors can
9392 live in peace, with mutual recognition of each other's
9493 dignity and sovereignty; and
9594 WHEREAS, in the midst of World War II, when the axis
9695 powers were not only waging world war against America and
9796 Europe, but also seeking the mass murder and systematic
9897 extermination of the Jewish people, Alabama led the nation
9998 in an official call for the establishment of the Jewish
10099 state in its ancestral homeland, five years before Israel
101100 was reborn as a nation; and
102101 WHEREAS, this year also marks the 80th anniversary of
103102 that historic resolution, Act 144, Senate Joint Resolution,
104103 1943 Regular Session, and the beginning of a long history of

137136 WHEREAS, the strong bond between Alabama and Israel
138137 continues to be expressed in growing political, cultural,
139138 economic, academic, business, and community partnerships for
140139 the mutual benefit of our people; now therefore,
141140 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
142141 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the State of Alabama:
143142 (1) Honors and celebrates the historic significance
144143 of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the State of
145144 Israel, becoming once again the world's only nation state of
146145 the Jewish people, in its ancestral homeland with Jerusalem,
147146 once again, its eternal undivided capital.
148147 (2) Recognizes and supports Israel in its legal,
149148 historical, and moral right to independence and
150149 self-determination.
151150 (3) Commends the people of Israel for their
152151 remarkable achievements, resilience, and determination in
153152 building a new and flourishing state in the face of hatred,
154153 terrorism, hostility, and belligerence by neighbors and
155154 others in the international community.
156155 (4) Reaffirms the historic 1943 joint resolution from
157156 Alabama supporting the establishment of the Jewish state and
158157 homeland in Israel and celebrates the historic significance
159158 of the 80th anniversary of its passing.
160159 (5) Commits to the continued friendship, cooperation,
161160 and strengthening of the relationship between Alabama and
