26-Relating to campaign finance; to exempt a candidate
27-for a municipal office from filing a designation of his or her
25+SYNOPSIS:
26+Under existing law, a candidate for elected
27+public office, within five days of becoming a
28+candidate, must file a statement with the Secretary of
29+State indicating the names of individuals serving as
30+the principal campaign committee for the candidate.
31+Also under existing law, a candidate must file
32+periodic campaign finance reports with the Secretary of
33+State during an election cycle, even if the candidate
34+does not receive contributions or make expenditures.
35+This bill would exempt a candidate running for a
36+municipal office from filing a statement designating
37+his or her principal campaign committee and filing
38+campaign finance reports unless and until the candidate
39+receives contributions or makes expenditures greater
40+than $1,000 in the aggregate.

43+AN ACT
44+Relating to campaign finance; to exempt a candidate for
45+a municipal office from filing a designation of his or her

29-reports until the candidate reaches a certain threshold in
30-receiving contributions or making expenditures.
31-BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
32-Section 1. A candidate running for a municipal office
33-is exempt from the filing requirements of Sections 17-5-4 and
34-17-5-8, Code of Alabama 1975, unless and until the candidate
35-receives contributions or makes expenditures in excess of one
36-thousand dollars ($1,000).
37-Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,
38-2024.
