17+SYNOPSIS:
18+This bill would propose an amendment to the
19+Constitution of Alabama of 2022, relating to Jackson
20+County, to authorize the mayors of municipalities in
21+the county to participate in the Employees' Retirement
22+System of Alabama under the same terms and conditions
23+as other employees in the same retirement system.

1827 To propose an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama
1928 of 2022, relating to Jackson County, to authorize the mayors
2029 of municipalities in the county to participate in the
2130 Employees' Retirement System of Alabama under the same terms
2231 and conditions as other employees in the same retirement
2332 system.
2433 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
2534 Section 1. The following amendment to the Constitution
2635 of Alabama of 2022, is proposed and shall become valid as a
2736 part of the constitution when all requirements of this act and
2837 applicable constitutional provisions are fulfilled:
29- PROPOSED AMENDMENT
30-In Jackson County, the mayors of municipalities in the
31-county may participate in the Employees' Retirement System of
32-Alabama under the same terms and conditions as other employees
33-in the same retirement system. Any mayor holding office at the
34-time of the ratification of this amendment shall be eligible
35-to purchase service credit in the Employees' Retirement System
36-for the time the official has served in the current office. No
37-person may participate in both a supernumerary program and the
38-Employees' Retirement System based on the same service.
39-Upon ratification of this constitutional amendment, the
40-Code Commissioner shall number and place this amendment as
41-appropriate in the constitution omitting this instructional
42-paragraph and may make the following nonsubstantive revisions:

67+ PROPOSED AMENDMENT
68+In Jackson County, the mayors of municipalities in the
69+county may participate in the Employees' Retirement System of
70+Alabama under the same terms and conditions as other employees
71+in the same retirement system. Any mayor holding office at the

7482 for purposes of style and uniformity; correct manifest
7583 grammatical, clerical, and typographical errors; revise
7684 internal or external citations and cross-references; and
7785 translate effective dates.
7886 Section 2. An election upon the proposed amendment
7987 shall be held in accordance with Sections 284, 284.01, and 285
8088 of the Constitution of Alabama of 2022, and the election laws
8189 of this state.
8290 Section 3. The appropriate election official shall
8391 assign a ballot number for the proposed constitutional
8492 amendment on the election ballot and shall set forth the
8593 following description of the substance or subject matter of
86-the proposed constitutional amendment:
87-"Relating to Jackson County, proposing an amendment to
88-the Constitution of Alabama of 2022, to authorize the mayors
89-of municipalities in the county to participate in the
90-Employees' Retirement System of Alabama under the same terms
91-and conditions as other employees in the same retirement
92-system.
93-Proposed by Act ____."
94-This description shall be followed by the following
