16	18		Relating to Calhoun County; to authorize the Calhoun
17	19		County Commission to levy and provide for the collection of an
18	20		additional vehicle license and registration fee on each
19	21		vehicle license and registration, transfer, or renewal of any
20	22		vehicle in the county; and to provide for distribution of the
21	23		proceeds from the fees to the sheriff.
22	24		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
23	25		Section 1.(a) The Calhoun County Commission may levy
24	26		and provide for the collection of an annual additional motor
25	27		vehicle license and registration issuance fee in the amount of
26	28		up to two dollars ($2) on each new registration, transfer, or
27	29		renewal on any vehicle in the county commencing with the motor
28	30		vehicle license and registration year commencing on January 1,
29	31		2025, if levied prior thereto. If the county commission
30	32		desires to levy the fee, the fee shall be levied prior to
31	33		December 1, 2024. Thereafter, the county commission may not
32	34		levy or amend or reduce the fee. The fee authorized by this
33	35		section shall only be for one continuing annual two dollar
34	36		($2) fee. The License Commissioner of the county or other
35	37		license issuing officials shall collect the issuance fee on
36		-	each new registration, transfer, or renewal on a vehicle in
37		-	the county. The fee shall be in addition to all other fees,
38		-	taxes, and other charges provided for the license and
39		-	registration of a vehicle.
40		-	(b) The proceeds from the additional issuance fees upon
41		-	collection shall be distributed on a monthly basis by the
42		-	License Commissioner to the sheriff of the county to be

	67	+	license issuing officials shall collect the issuance fee on
	68	+	each new registration, transfer, or renewal on a vehicle in
	69	+	the county. The fee shall be in addition to all other fees,
	70	+	taxes, and other charges provided for the license and
	71	+	registration of a vehicle.
	72	+	(b) The proceeds from the additional issuance fees upon
	73	+	collection shall be distributed on a monthly basis by the
72	74		License Commissioner to the sheriff of the county to be
73	75		deposited in the Sheriff's Law Enforcement Fund to be used for
74	76		law enforcement purposes.
75	77		(c) The proceeds from the fees and the use of the fees
76	78		shall not diminish or take the place of any other source of
77	79		funding of the sheriff's office.
78	80		Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
79	81		1, 2024.
