16	18		Relating to Calhoun County; to amend Section 1 of Acts
17	19		1978, No. 117 (Acts 1978, p. 1832), and to replace Section
18	20		45-8-200.01, Code of Alabama 1975, as added by Acts 1965, No.
19	21		154 (Acts 1965, p. 218), which act was repealed by Acts 1978,
20	22		No. 117 (Acts 1978, p. 1832); and to further provide for the
21	23		compensation of the license commissioner.
22	24		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
23	25		Section 1. Section 1 of Acts 1978, No. 117 (Acts 1978,
24	26		p. 1832), is amended to read as follows:
25	27		"The license commissioner presently serving in Calhoun
26	28		County shall continue in that office until his successor is
27	29		elected, in the 1980 primary or general election, and assumes
28	30		office in January, 1981. (a) Commencing with the election of
29	31		the license commissioner in the 1980 election, the term of
30	32		office shall be for six years from January , 1981, and shall be
31	33		filled by the majority of the qualified electors voting
32	34		thereon at the primary or general election held , in 1980, for
33	35		county-wide offices which terms commence in 1981 , and every
34	36		six years thereafter.
35	37		(b) Notice of the election shall be given by the judge
36		-	of probate, which notice shall be published once a week for
37		-	three successive weeks before the day of the election.
38		-	(c) Candidates for the office shall qualify as other
39		-	candidates for county office.
40		-	(d) The judge of probate shall certify the results of
41		-	the election to the Secretary of State in the same manner as
42		-	is required for all local or general elections.

	67	+	(b) Notice of the election shall be given by the judge
	68	+	of probate, which notice shall be published once a week for

	72	+	(d) The judge of probate shall certify the results of

73	75		(e) Beginning with the new term of office in January
74	76		1981, and thereafter, the commissioner of license shall
75	77		receive an annual salary of twenty-two thousand five hundred
76	78		thousand dollars ($22,500). Such salary shall be paid from the
77	79		county treasury in the same manner as other county officers'
78	80		salaries are paid."
79	81		Section 2. (a) Effective July 1, 2024, the commissioner
80	82		of licenses shall receive an additional expense allowance
81	83		equal to 12.5 percent of the commissioner's salary on June 1,
82	84		2024, payable in equal monthly installments from the general
83	85		fund of the county. The expense allowance shall be in addition
84	86		to all other compensation, expense allowances, or benefits
85	87		granted to the commissioner.
86	88		(b) Beginning with the next term of office after July
87	89		1, 2024, the commissioner of licenses shall receive an annual
88	90		salary equal to 112.5 percent of the commissioner's salary on
89	91		June 1, 2024, and the expense allowance in subsection (a)
90	92		shall be void.
91	93		Section 3. This act shall become effective on June 1,
92	94		2024.
