1515 SYNOPSIS:
1616 Under existing law, any individual seeking an
1717 expedited license to practice medicine or osteopathy in
1818 the state must submit to a criminal background check,
1919 but the term "expedited license" is not defined.
2020 This bill would define "expedited license."

2323 AN ACT
2424 Relating to licensure of physicians; to amend Section
2525 34-24-50.1, Code of Alabama 1975, as last amended by Act
2626 2023-233 of the 2023 Regular Session, to define "expedited
2727 license" for purposes of criminal background checks of
2828 applicants.
2929 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
3030 Section 1. Section 34-24-50.1, Code of Alabama 1975, as
3131 last amended by Act 2023-233 of the 2023 Regular Session, is
3232 amended to read as follows:
3333 "ยง34-24-50.1
3434 Unless otherwise indicated from the context, the terms
3535 set out below as used in Articles 3, 8, 9, and 10 of this
3636 chapter have the following meanings:

6666 chapter have the following meanings:
6767 (1) BOARD. The State Board of Medical Examiners.
6868 (2) DOCTOR. Both doctors of medicine and doctors of
6969 osteopathy.
7070 (3) EXPEDITED LICENSE. A license to practice medicine,
7171 a certificate of qualification, a certification of eligibility
7272 for a license to practice medicine, or a certification of
7373 eligibility for a certificate of qualification that is issued
7474 in an accelerated manner.
7575 (3)(4) LEGEND DRUG. Any drug, medicine, chemical, or
7676 poison, bearing on the label the words, "Caution: Federal Law
7777 prohibits dispensing without a prescription" or similar words
7878 indicating that the drug, medicine, chemical, or poison may be
7979 sold or dispensed only upon the prescription of a licensed
8080 medical practitioner, except that the term legend drug shall
8181 not include any drug, substance, or compound that is listed in
8282 Schedules I through V of the Alabama Uniform Controlled
8383 Substances Act.
8484 (4)(5) LICENSED TO PRACTICE MEDICINE. Both the practice
8585 of medicine by a doctor of medicine or the practice of
8686 osteopathy by a doctor of osteopathy.
8787 (5)(6) PHYSICIAN. Either a doctor of medicine or a
8888 doctor of osteopathy."
8989 Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,
