16	18		Relating to Marengo County; to amend Section 45-46-60
17	19		of the Code of Alabama 1975, to increase the expense allowance
18	20		and to further provide for the mileage allowance of the
19	21		coroner; to authorize the county commission to provide for the
20	22		coroner to appoint a deputy coroner and to provide an expense
21	23		allowance and mileage allowance for the deputy coroner; and to
22	24		authorize the county commission to increase the expense
23	25		allowance and mileage allowance of the coroner and the deputy
24	26		coroner.
25	27		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
26	28		Section 1. Section 45-46-60 of the Code of Alabama
27	29		1975, is amended to read as follows:
28	30		"§45-46-60
29	31		(a)(1)Retroactive to January 1, 1992, Effective October
30	32		1, 2024, the Coroner of Marengo County , Alabama, shall be
31	33		entitled to receive an expense allowance in the amount of four
32	34		hundred dollars ($400) one thousand dollars ($1,000) per
33	35		month, to be paid in equal monthly installments from the
34	36		county general fund. The expense allowance shall be in
35	37		addition to the mileage allowance of twenty-two cents ($.22)
36		-	per mile, and in lieu of any expense allowances heretofore
37		-	provided by law for the coroner.
38		-	(2) The Marengo County Commission, by resolution of the
39		-	commission, may authorize the coroner to employ a deputy
40		-	coroner to serve at the pleasure of the coroner. The deputy
41		-	coroner shall receive an expense allowance to be set by the

	70	+	(2) The Marengo County Commission, by resolution of the
	71	+	commission, may authorize the coroner to employ a deputy

71	73		coroner shall receive an expense allowance to be set by the
72	74		county commission, payable monthly from the county general
73	75		fund.
74	76		(b) The Effective October 1, 2024, the Marengo County
75	77		Commission is hereby authorized and empowered to may set the
76	78		mileage allowance for the county coroner at twenty-two cents
77	79		($.22) per mile and the deputy coroner . SuchThe mileage
78	80		allowance shall be paid from the county general fund and shall
79	81		be in lieu of any mileage allowances heretofore provided by
80	82		law for such the coroner.
81	83		(c) Effective October 1, 2025, and at the beginning of
82	84		each fiscal year thereafter, the county commission may
83	85		increase the expense allowance and mileage allowance paid to
84	86		the coroner and the deputy coroner.
85	87		(d) The expense allowances and mileage allowances
86	88		provided by this section shall be in lieu of any expense
87	89		allowances or mileage allowances provided by general law. The
88	90		coroner and the deputy coroner by accepting the expense
89	91		allowances and mileage allowances shall waive any expense
90	92		allowances and mileage allowances provided by general law. "
91	93		Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
92	94		1, 2024.
