	17	+	AN ACT
16	18		Relating to Walker County; to provide for the salary of
17	19		the judge of probate.
18	20		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
19	21		Section 1. (a) Effective January 20, 2025, the Judge of
20	22		Probate of Walker County shall receive an annual salary equal
21	23		to the first step of the state base salary paid to a state
22	24		district court judge at that time.
23	25		(b) In addition, the judge of probate shall be entitled
24	26		to any increases in salary, including step increases and
25	27		cost-of-living increases, in the same amount and the same
26	28		manner as a district judge having the same number of years of
27	29		service that the judge of probate has after that date.
28	30		(c) The salary provided by this section shall be in
29	31		lieu of any and all other prior compensation or salary
30	32		provided by law to the judge of probate.
31	33		(d) The salary shall be paid in equal periodic
32	34		installments from the general fund of the county.
33	35		(e) Any new judge of probate first elected or appointed
34	36		after January 20, 2025, to his or her first term shall revert
35	37		to the first step of the state base salary paid to a district
36		-	court judge and the salary shall be adjusted as provided in
37		-	subsection (b).
38		-	Section 2. This act shall become effective on January
39		-	20, 2025.

	70	+	Section 2. This act shall become effective on January
