| 23 | 23 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: |

| 24 | 24 | | Section 1. Section 9 of Act 2022-279, 2022 Regular |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Session, is amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | "Section 9. (a) The judge of probate may mail to any |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | person to whom a motor vehicle license has been previously |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | issued an application for renewal of a license required to be |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | returned prior to the expiration date of the license. The |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | application for renewal may be in the form of a postcard and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | shall contain sufficient information to adequately identify |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and process the renewal. The signature of the licensee on the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | application and proper remittance shall constitute sufficient |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | authority for the judge of probate to issue the license and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | return the license to the licensee by mail. The county |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | commission may establish a fee to be entitled "Mail Order Fee" |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | in an amount not to exceed three dollars ($3) to pay the cost |

| 69 | 69 | | an additional fee, not to exceed a total of ten dollars ($10), |

| 70 | 70 | | if the licensee requests to receive a license plate or decal |

| 71 | 71 | | by priority mail. The fee fees shall be collected by the judge |
|---|
| 72 | 72 | | of probate at the time of issuance and paid over to the |
|---|
| 73 | 73 | | general fund of the county as are other fees and commissions. |
|---|
| 74 | 74 | | (b) The judge of probate may charge up to five dollars |
|---|
| 75 | 75 | | ($5) for the cost of mailing any other probate document. " |
|---|
| 76 | 76 | | Section 2. This act shall become effective on October |
|---|
