18	20		Relating to Franklin County; to provide for the annual
19	21		expense allowance and salary and other benefits for the
20	22		coroner; and to further authorize the Franklin County
21	23		Commission to appropriate and expend funds for the operation
22	24		of the office of the coroner.
23	25		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
24	26		Section 1. (a) The Coroner of Franklin County shall
25	27		receive an expense allowance in the amount of nine thousand
26	28		seven hundred dollars ($9,700) per annum, which shall be in
27	29		addition to all other expense allowances, compensation, or
28	30		salary provided by law. The expense allowance shall be paid in
29	31		equal monthly installments from the general fund of the
30	32		county.
31	33		(b) Effective beginning the next term of office, the
32	34		expense allowance provided for in subsection (a) shall be
33	35		void, and the Coroner of Franklin County shall receive an
34	36		annual salary of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) to be paid in
35	37		equal monthly installments from the general fund of the
36	38		county. The salary in this subsection shall be the total
37	39		compensation paid to the coroner, subject to the adjustments
38		-	provided in subsection (c).
39		-	(c) In addition to the salary provided in subsection
40		-	(b), the salary of the coroner shall be increased by any
41		-	uniform increases in compensation granted equally to all
42		-	county employees by the Franklin County Commission. In
43		-	addition, the coroner may participate in the county health
44		-	insurance plan and any retirement plan provided to county

	69	+	compensation paid to the coroner, subject to the adjustments
	70	+	provided in subsection (c).
	71	+	(c) In addition to the salary provided in subsection
	72	+	(b), the salary of the coroner shall be increased by any
	73	+	uniform increases in compensation granted equally to all
	74	+	county employees by the Franklin County Commission. In
	75	+	addition, the coroner may participate in the county health
74	76		insurance plan and any retirement plan provided to county
75	77		employees under the same terms as county employees.
76	78		(d) The Franklin County Commission may appropriate and
77	79		expend county funds for the coroner's salary, benefits, and
78	80		expenses necessary for the operation of the office of the
79	81		coroner. The commission may provide the coroner with expenses
80	82		for the operation of a motor vehicle or may furnish the
81	83		coroner with the use of a county vehicle.
82	84		(e) The Franklin County Commission may authorize the
83	85		coroner to appoint one or more deputy coroners to perform the
84	86		duties of the coroner in the absence of the coroner and
85	87		provide for the compensation of any deputy coroner appointed.
86	88		Section 2. Act 1185, 1969 Regular Session (Acts 1969,
87	89		p. 2213), as amended by Act 90-461, 1990 Regular Session (Acts
88	90		1990, p. 653); Act 491, 1971 Regular Session (Acts 1971, p.
89	91		1205); and Act 446, 1973 Regular Session (Acts 1973, p. 636)
90	92		are repealed.
91	93		Section 3. This act shall become effective on June 1,
92	94		2024.
