PROCLAIMING MARCH 5, 2024, AS SPACE DAY IN ALABAMA.
WHEREAS, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center has
contributed numerous advancements to the world in science
and rocket propulsion technology over the past six decades,
including taking Americans to the moon; and 
WHEREAS, Marshall Space Flight Center is responsible
for generating $8.3 billion in economic impact while
supporting more than 41,000 jobs across Alabama; Marshall
Space Flight Center serves as a major economic development
asset and technology magnet for Alabama and the Southeast;
and 
WHEREAS, Marshall Space Flight Center brings
additional benefits to the state through continued advanced
discoveries, STEM outreach, strengthening national security,
deepening partnerships across the country and around the
world, and inspiring a new generation of scientists,
engineers, and explorers; and
WHEREAS, Marshall Space Flight Center, through a
strong legacy of accomplishments, such as the Space Launch
System for the Artemis Missions, the International Space
Station, Hubble Space Telescope, James Webb Telescope,
Chandra X-Ray Observatory, and Imaging X-Ray Polarimetry
Explorer Mission, is developing robust missions to expand
understanding of our planet, solar system, and the universe;

understanding of our planet, solar system, and the universe;
and
WHEREAS, NASA Astronauts Clifton Williams, Henry
Hartsfield, Kathy Thornton, James Voss, Mae Jemison, Jan
Davis, and Kathryn Hire, each from Alabama, have spent over
320 days in space across 18 flights of the Marshall-managed
Space Shuttle Program, with Jemison, the first African
American in space, and Davis flying together aboard STS-47
in 1992; and
WHEREAS, Alabamians are exceedingly proud of the
distinguished achievements of Marshall Space Flight Center
and the advances in space exploration, technology, and
science it has produced for the benefit of all humanity; now
therefore, 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we hereby proclaim March 5,
2024, as Space Day in the State of Alabama.
