20 | 20 | | and Betty Farrior Family Foundation for outstanding service |

21 | 21 | | to the Talladega Community and the great State of Alabama; |

23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, the Willie and Betty Farrior Family |
---|
24 | 24 | | Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in March |
---|
25 | 25 | | 2017 by Colonel (Retired) Cedrick A. Farrior in memory of |
---|
26 | 26 | | his grandparents; both were native Alabamians who |
---|
27 | 27 | | unfortunately lost their vision at an early age; they |
---|
28 | 28 | | attended the Alabama School for the Negro Deaf and Blind in |
---|
29 | 29 | | Talladega, Alabama, and they married in October 1945; |
---|
30 | 30 | | Willie became the first Black blind individual to be |
---|
31 | 31 | | employed at the Alabama Industries for the Blind in June |
---|
32 | 32 | | 1950; Willie Farrior was employed until he retired after 40 |
---|
33 | 33 | | years, and Betty Farrior retired after 27 years of |
---|
34 | 34 | | employment; their persistence for excellence despite having |
---|
35 | 35 | | to overcome many obstacles and their commitment to serving |
---|
36 | 36 | | others made lasting impressions that are still present |
---|
37 | 37 | | today; and |
---|

76 | 76 | | WHEREAS, one such outstanding individual deserving of |

77 | 77 | | recognition for his community leadership is Johnny Frank |
---|
78 | 78 | | McKinney; born on October 4, 1952, to Katie Mae and Frank |
---|
79 | 79 | | McKinney, he was educated in Talladega and a member of the |
---|
80 | 80 | | first graduating class after the full integration of |
---|
81 | 81 | | Talladega High School in 1971; and |
---|
82 | 82 | | WHEREAS, subsequently, Dr. McKinney joined the United |
---|
83 | 83 | | States Navy and demonstrated loyalty, duty, selfless |
---|
84 | 84 | | service, and integrity until his honorable discharge; he |
---|
85 | 85 | | became employed with the Department of Defense and retired |
---|
86 | 86 | | after 28 years of Federal Civilian Service at Fort McClellan |
---|
87 | 87 | | where he worked as the Transportation Motor Pool Officer; |
---|
88 | 88 | | and |
---|
89 | 89 | | WHEREAS, Dr. McKinney earned an Associate Degree from |
---|
90 | 90 | | Gadsden State Community College and a Bachelor Degree in |
---|
91 | 91 | | Theology from Birmingham Baptist Bible College; he was later |
---|
92 | 92 | | awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Rushing Springs |
---|
93 | 93 | | School of Theology in Sylacauga; and |
---|
94 | 94 | | WHEREAS, he has served as Pastor of the Rocky Mount |
---|
95 | 95 | | Missionary Baptist Church since March of 1991; he and his |
---|
96 | 96 | | wife, Josephine McKinney, are committed to their church |

136 | 136 | | WHEREAS, Dr. McKinney is currently the Dean of the |

137 | 137 | | Rushing Springs School of Theology and an instructor of the |

138 | 138 | | Certificate of Progress Program for the Congress of |

139 | 139 | | Christian Education at the Rushing Springs District Center; |

140 | 140 | | he served as Moderator of the Rushing Springs District |

141 | 141 | | Association from 2010-2018; and |

142 | 142 | | WHEREAS, Dr. McKinney serves a Trustee for Selma |

143 | 143 | | University, a Chaplain at Citizens Baptist Medical Center, |

144 | 144 | | and an appointed board member for the Talladega Housing |
