15	15	HR___ COMMENDING FIRE CHIEF GENE NECKLAUS FOR OUTSTANDING
16	16	PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS.
17	17	WHEREAS, highest commendations are herein proudly
18	18	presented to Chief Gene Necklaus for outstanding
19	19	professional achievements on the occasion of his retirement
20	20	as Fire Chief of the City of Scottsboro, Alabama; and
21	21	WHEREAS, Chief Necklaus has spent the last 26 years
22	22	serving the Scottsboro fire department in one capacity or
23	23	another; he began his career there; his grandfather had
24	24	served as a Scottsboro volunteer fire fighter in the early
25	25	years of the force and his uncles and great-uncles were
26	26	involved in fire departments in Cullman and Decatur; and
27	27	WHEREAS, while enrolled at Northeast Alabama
28	28	Community College, the young Necklaus joined the fire
29	29	department as a volunteer at the urging of some friends who
30	30	were already volunteering; and
31	31	WHEREAS, he was hired full-time in may of 1998, was
32	32	promoted to driver after six years, lieutenant in 2006, and
33	33	training officer in 2008; and
34	34	WHEREAS, since 2014, he has served as Scottsboro's
35	35	sixth Fire Chief; under his leadership, the Scottsboro Fire
36	36	Department has received over $750,000 in federal, state, and
37	37	private grants that have been used for vital equipment
38	38	upgrades; the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs has

68	68	upgrades; the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs has
69	69	provided a network of fire service professionals across the
70	70	state and country and together they have worked on several
71	71	statewide projects; his proudest accomplishments are the
72	72	Residential Sprinkler legislation and the Firefighter Cancer
73	73	Benefit; and
74	74	WHEREAS, Chief Necklaus also implemented a gear
75	75	cleaning and inspection program to ensure each firefighter
76	76	has a clean protective hood to protect firefighters from
77	77	inhaling more toxins; and
78	78	WHEREAS, though Necklaus established a steady career
79	79	with the fire department long ago, he also worked to advance
80	80	his college education through the years, beginning with an
81	81	Associates Degree, a Bachelor's Degree, and a Juris
82	82	Doctorate; and
83	83	WHEREAS, Chief Necklaus has earned immense respect
84	84	for his tireless dedication and exceptional abilities, and
85	85	he is truly deserving of special recognition; now therefore;
86	86	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
87	87	LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That in recognition of Fire Chief
88	88	Gene Necklaus' outstanding performance and accomplishments
89	89	in leading the Scottsboro Fire Department, we convey our
90	90	highest esteem along with our congratulations and best
91	91	wishes for success in all future endeavors.
