1515 HR___ COMMENDING FIRE CHIEF GENE NECKLAUS FOR OUTSTANDING
1616 PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS.
1717 WHEREAS, highest commendations are herein proudly
1818 presented to Chief Gene Necklaus for outstanding
1919 professional achievements on the occasion of his retirement
2020 as Fire Chief of the City of Scottsboro, Alabama; and
2121 WHEREAS, Chief Necklaus has spent the last 26 years
2222 serving the Scottsboro fire department in one capacity or
2323 another; he began his career there; his grandfather had
2424 served as a Scottsboro volunteer fire fighter in the early
2525 years of the force and his uncles and great-uncles were
2626 involved in fire departments in Cullman and Decatur; and
2727 WHEREAS, while enrolled at Northeast Alabama
2828 Community College, the young Necklaus joined the fire
2929 department as a volunteer at the urging of some friends who
3030 were already volunteering; and
3131 WHEREAS, he was hired full-time in may of 1998, was
3232 promoted to driver after six years, lieutenant in 2006, and
3333 training officer in 2008; and
3434 WHEREAS, since 2014, he has served as Scottsboro's
3535 sixth Fire Chief; under his leadership, the Scottsboro Fire
3636 Department has received over $750,000 in federal, state, and
3737 private grants that have been used for vital equipment
3838 upgrades; the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs has

6868 upgrades; the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs has
6969 provided a network of fire service professionals across the
7070 state and country and together they have worked on several
7171 statewide projects; his proudest accomplishments are the
7272 Residential Sprinkler legislation and the Firefighter Cancer
7373 Benefit; and
7474 WHEREAS, Chief Necklaus also implemented a gear
7575 cleaning and inspection program to ensure each firefighter
7676 has a clean protective hood to protect firefighters from
7777 inhaling more toxins; and
7878 WHEREAS, though Necklaus established a steady career
7979 with the fire department long ago, he also worked to advance
8080 his college education through the years, beginning with an
8181 Associates Degree, a Bachelor's Degree, and a Juris
8282 Doctorate; and
8383 WHEREAS, Chief Necklaus has earned immense respect
8484 for his tireless dedication and exceptional abilities, and
8585 he is truly deserving of special recognition; now therefore;
8686 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8787 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That in recognition of Fire Chief
8888 Gene Necklaus' outstanding performance and accomplishments
8989 in leading the Scottsboro Fire Department, we convey our
9090 highest esteem along with our congratulations and best
9191 wishes for success in all future endeavors.
