16	16	GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACHES UPON WINNING THE ALABAMA
17	17	HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 5A STATE BASKETBALL
18	18	CHAMPIONSHIP.
19	19	WHEREAS, we join the students, coaches, parents, and
20	20	faculty at Jasper High School in celebrating the Girls
21	21	Basketball Team's Alabama High School Athletic Association
22	22	(AHSAA) Class 5A State Basketball Championship; and
23	23	WHEREAS, on March 2, 2024, at the BJCC Legacy Arena
24	24	in Birmingham, the Jasper High School Girls Basketball Team
25	25	defied expectations by securing their first State Title in
26	26	the program's history with a 48-44 victory over Scottsboro
27	27	High School; and
28	28	WHEREAS, senior Mia Hollingsworth earned tournament
29	29	MVP honors and was instrumental in the team's victory after
30	30	finishing with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists, and
31	31	two steals; she scored the go-ahead basket on a layup,
32	32	drawing a foul on the play, and converted the and-1
33	33	opportunity to push the lead with 4:01 remaining in the
34	34	game; and
35	35	WHEREAS, other notable standouts were sophomore Missy
36	36	Odom who tied Mia Hollingsworth for a team-high with 16
37	37	points, adding seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocked
38	38	shots; senior Hallie Harrell added 12 points and seven

69	69	rebounds; senior Idaysia Mercer produced only 2 points, but
70	70	dished out 4 assists with only 1 turnover; and
71	71	WHEREAS, student athletes Mia Hollingsworth, Missy
72	72	Odom, and Idaysia Mercer were honored with selection for the
73	73	Class 5A Girls All-Tourney Team; and
74	74	WHEREAS, the Jasper High School Girls Basketball
75	75	Program has been superbly coached and inspired by Head
76	76	Varsity Coach Blake Laney and Assistant Coaches Vess
77	77	Hollingsworth and Jackee Key; under their leadership the
78	78	players have broadened their knowledge of the game, refined
79	79	their skills in execution, and furthered the tradition of
80	80	superior play and true sportsmanship; and
81	81	WHEREAS, the 2023-2024 Jasper High School Girls
82	82	Basketball team ended the season with an overall record of
83	83	31-4, which is the second-most wins in school history; they
84	84	distinctively broke the AHSAA State record by completing 22
85	85	three-shots made in a single game; went 6-0 in 5A Area 10
86	86	play; are the Regular Season 5A Area 10 Champions and the
87	87	Northwest Regional Champions; their successes reflect their
88	88	resiliency and ability to exceed expectations; they have
89	89	proven that determination and strategic gameplay can lead to
90	90	excellence; and
91	91	WHEREAS, the 2023-2024 Jasper High School Girls
92	92	Championship roster includes seniors, Idaysia Mercer,
93	93	Jakayla Kirk, Hallie Harrell, Ally Grace Salors, and Mia
94	94	Hollingsworth; Sophomores, Marianna Rigsby, DeCaleigh
95	95	Calvin, and Missy Odom; Freshmen, Gracen Norris and Emma Lou
96	96	Franks; and 8th Grader, Sara Katherine Bonner; now

128	128	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
129	129	LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the Jasper High School Girls
130	130	Basketball Team and Coaches are highly commended and
131	131	congratulated for winning its first AHSAA Basketball State
132	132	Championship, and we hereby dedicate this resolution to them
133	133	with utmost admiration, along with sincere best wishes for
134	134	continued success in all future endeavors.
