1515 HR___ COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE JASPER HIGH SCHOOL
1616 GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACHES UPON WINNING THE ALABAMA
1717 HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 5A STATE BASKETBALL
1818 CHAMPIONSHIP.
1919 WHEREAS, we join the students, coaches, parents, and
2020 faculty at Jasper High School in celebrating the Girls
2121 Basketball Team's Alabama High School Athletic Association
2222 (AHSAA) Class 5A State Basketball Championship; and
2323 WHEREAS, on March 2, 2024, at the BJCC Legacy Arena
2424 in Birmingham, the Jasper High School Girls Basketball Team
2525 defied expectations by securing their first State Title in
2626 the program's history with a 48-44 victory over Scottsboro
2727 High School; and
2828 WHEREAS, senior Mia Hollingsworth earned tournament
2929 MVP honors and was instrumental in the team's victory after
3030 finishing with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists, and
3131 two steals; she scored the go-ahead basket on a layup,
3232 drawing a foul on the play, and converted the and-1
3333 opportunity to push the lead with 4:01 remaining in the
3434 game; and
3535 WHEREAS, other notable standouts were sophomore Missy
3636 Odom who tied Mia Hollingsworth for a team-high with 16
3737 points, adding seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocked
3838 shots; senior Hallie Harrell added 12 points and seven

7171 WHEREAS, student athletes Mia Hollingsworth, Missy
7272 Odom, and Idaysia Mercer were honored with selection for the
7373 Class 5A Girls All-Tourney Team; and
7474 WHEREAS, the Jasper High School Girls Basketball
7575 Program has been superbly coached and inspired by Head
7676 Varsity Coach Blake Laney and Assistant Coaches Vess
7777 Hollingsworth and Jackee Key; under their leadership the
7878 players have broadened their knowledge of the game, refined
7979 their skills in execution, and furthered the tradition of
8080 superior play and true sportsmanship; and
8181 WHEREAS, the 2023-2024 Jasper High School Girls
8282 Basketball team ended the season with an overall record of
8383 31-4, which is the second-most wins in school history; they
8484 distinctively broke the AHSAA State record by completing 22
8585 three-shots made in a single game; went 6-0 in 5A Area 10
8686 play; are the Regular Season 5A Area 10 Champions and the
8787 Northwest Regional Champions; their successes reflect their
8888 resiliency and ability to exceed expectations; they have
8989 proven that determination and strategic gameplay can lead to
9090 excellence; and
9191 WHEREAS, the 2023-2024 Jasper High School Girls
9292 Championship roster includes seniors, Idaysia Mercer,
9393 Jakayla Kirk, Hallie Harrell, Ally Grace Salors, and Mia
9494 Hollingsworth; Sophomores, Marianna Rigsby, DeCaleigh
9595 Calvin, and Missy Odom; Freshmen, Gracen Norris and Emma Lou

129129 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the Jasper High School Girls
130130 Basketball Team and Coaches are highly commended and
131131 congratulated for winning its first AHSAA Basketball State
132132 Championship, and we hereby dedicate this resolution to them
