16	16	This bill would propose an amendment to the
17	17	Constitution of Alabama of 2022, relating to Cherokee
18	18	County, to authorize the Legislature to fix and
19	19	regulate court costs by general or local law; and to
20	20	ratify all previously collected court costs.
21	21	A BILL
22	22	TO BE ENTITLED
23	23	AN ACT
24	24	To propose an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama
25	25	of 2022, relating to Cherokee County, to authorize the
26	26	Legislature to fix and regulate court costs by general or
27	27	local law; and to ratify all previously collected court costs.
28	28	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
29	29	Section 1. The following amendment to the Constitution
30	30	of Alabama of 2022, is proposed:
31	31	PROPOSED AMENDMENT
32	32	(a) The Legislature, by general or local law, may fix,
33	33	regulate, and alter the costs and charges of courts in
34	34	Cherokee County and provide for their distribution.
35	35	(b) All court costs and charges collected in Cherokee
36	36	County prior to the ratification of this amendment are hereby

66	66	County prior to the ratification of this amendment are hereby
67	67	ratified, validated, and confirmed.
68	68	Upon ratification of this constitutional amendment, the
69	69	Code Commissioner shall number and place this amendment as
70	70	appropriate in the constitution omitting this instructional
71	71	paragraph and may make the following nonsubstantive revisions:
72	72	change capitalization, hierarchy, spelling, and punctuation
73	73	for purposes of style and uniformity; correct manifest
74	74	grammatical, clerical, and typographical errors; revise
75	75	internal or external citations and cross-references; and
76	76	translate effective dates.
77	77	END PROPOSED AMENDMENT
78	78	Section 2. An election upon the proposed amendment
79	79	shall be held in accordance with Sections 284, 284.01, and 285
80	80	of the Constitution of Alabama of 2022, and the election laws
81	81	of this state. The appropriate election official shall assign
82	82	a ballot number for the proposed constitutional amendment on
83	83	the election ballot and shall set forth the following
84	84	description of the substance or subject matter of the proposed
85	85	constitutional amendment:
86	86	"Relating to Cherokee County, proposing an amendment to
87	87	the Constitution of Alabama of 2022, to authorize the
88	88	Legislature to fix and regulate court costs by general or
89	89	local law; and to ratify all previously collected court costs.
90	90	Proposed by Act ____."
91	91	This description shall be followed by the following
92	92	language:
93	93	Yes( ) No( )."

125	125	part of the Constitution of Alabama of 2022, when approved by
126	126	a majority of the qualified electors voting thereon.
