15+SYNOPSIS:
16+This bill would propose an amendment to the
17+Constitution of Alabama of 2022, relating to Etowah
18+County, to authorize the Legislature to fix and
19+regulate court costs by general or local law; and to
20+ratify all previously collected court costs.

23+AN ACT
1624 To propose an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama
1725 of 2022, relating to Etowah County, to amend Section 28-2.00,
1826 Constitution of Alabama of 2022; to authorize the Legislature
1927 to fix and regulate court costs by general or local law; and
2028 to ratify all previously collected court costs.
2129 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
2230 Section 1. The following amendment to the Constitution
2331 of Alabama of 2022, is proposed:
2432 PROPOSED AMENDMENT
2533 Section 28-2.00 of the Constitution of Alabama of 2022,
2634 is amended to read as follows:
2735 "Section 28-2.00
2836 (a) The legislature Legislature, by general or local
29-law, may by general or local law provide that a trial tax or
30-charge on litigation of not more than ... dollars (...) shall
31-be taxed as costs in any case, action, or proceeding hereafter
32-filed in the circuit court of fix, regulate, and alter the
33-costs and charges of courts in Etowah county, whether at law
34-or in equity, and that a like tax or charge of not more than
35-... dollars (...) shall be taxed as cost in any case hereafter
36-filed in the Etowah county court, the proceeds of such tax or
37-charge shall be used for establishing, equipping, maintaining
38-and operating the public law library in Etowah county
39-established pursuant to Act No. 191, H. 596, which became
40-effective August 1, 1955 (Acts of Alabama 1955, page 485),
41-including the payment of the salaries of the personnel needed

66+(a) The legislature Legislature, by general or local

7985 Upon ratification of this constitutional amendment, the
8086 Code Commissioner shall number and place this amendment as
8187 appropriate in the constitution omitting this instructional
8288 paragraph and may make the following nonsubstantive revisions:
8389 change capitalization, hierarchy, spelling, and punctuation
8490 for purposes of style and uniformity; correct manifest
8591 grammatical, clerical, and typographical errors; revise
8692 internal or external citations and cross-references; and
8793 translate effective dates.
8894 END PROPOSED AMENDMENT
89-Section 2. An election upon the proposed amendment
90-shall be held in accordance with Sections 284, 284.01, and 285
91-of the Constitution of Alabama of 2022, and the election laws
92-of this state. The appropriate election official shall assign
93-a ballot number for the proposed constitutional amendment on
94-the election ballot and shall set forth the following
95-description of the substance or subject matter of the proposed
96-constitutional amendment:
97-"Relating to Etowah County, proposing an amendment to
98-the Constitution of Alabama of 2022, to authorize the
99-Legislature to fix and regulate court costs by general or
