Senate Bill 77 as reported by the Committee on County and Municipal Government would,
effective June 1, 2024, restructure the composition of the Alabama Department of Archives and
History's Board of Trustees by: (1) including on the board only the Governor and twelve at-large
members (a decrease of four members); and (2) changing the appointing authorities. This could
decrease the obligations of the Department to reimburse per diem and travel expenses of board
members by an estimated $176 per member per board meeting attended in person. However,
according to the Department, historically board member per diem and travel expenses have
never been claimed.
