18	18	Relating to the City of Scottsboro in Jackson County;
19	19	to extend the terms of office of the Mayor of the City of
20	20	Scottsboro, the members of the City Council of the City of
21	21	Scottsboro, and the members of the Scottsboro City Board of
22	22	Education for the purpose of revising the election dates for
23	23	the general municipal election in the city.
24	24	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
25	25	Section 1. This act shall apply only to the City of
26	26	Scottsboro in Jackson County.
27	27	Section 2.The terms of office of the members of the
28	28	City Council of the City of Scottsboro set to expire in 2026
29	29	shall be extended by one additional year to expire in 2027.
30	30	Successors to the offices of members of the city council whose
31	31	terms expire in 2027 shall be elected at the general municipal
32	32	election to be held on the fourth Tuesday in August 2027, and
33	33	every four years thereafter.
34	34	Section 3. The term of office of the Mayor of the City
35	35	of Scottsboro set to expire in 2028 and the terms of office of
36	36	the members of the City Council of the City of Scottsboro set
37	37	to expire in 2028 shall be extended by one additional year to

67	67	to expire in 2028 shall be extended by one additional year to
68	68	expire in 2029. A successor to the Office of Mayor and
69	69	successors to the offices of members of the city council whose
70	70	terms expire in 2029 shall be elected at a general municipal
71	71	election to be held on the fourth Tuesday in August 2029, and
72	72	every four years thereafter.
73	73	Section 4. The terms of office of members of the
74	74	Scottsboro City Board of Education set to expire in 2026 shall
75	75	be extended by one additional year to expire in 2027.
76	76	Successors to the offices of members of the city board of
77	77	education whose terms expire in 2027 shall be elected at the
78	78	general municipal election to be held on the fourth Tuesday in
79	79	August 2027, and every six years thereafter.
80	80	Section 5. The terms of office of members of the
81	81	Scottsboro City Board of Education set to expire in either
82	82	2028 or 2030 shall be extended by one additional year to
83	83	expire in either 2029 or 2031, respectively. Successors to the
84	84	offices of members of the city board of education shall be
85	85	elected at the fourth Tuesday in either August 2029 or August
86	86	2031, in the year the term of the member expires, and every
87	87	six years thereafter.
88	88	Section 6. After the effective date of this act, if no
89	89	candidate for mayor, member of the city council, or member of
90	90	the city board of education receives a majority of votes cast
91	91	in the regular municipal election, a second or run-off
92	92	election shall be held on the fourth Tuesday following the
93	93	regular election.
94	94	Section 7. All laws or parts of laws which conflict
95	95	with this act are repealed.
