19+SYNOPSIS:
20+Under existing law, classroom instruction or
21+discussions regarding gender identity or sexual
22+orientation may not be provided to public school
23+students in kindergarten through fifth grade in a
24+manner that is not age or developmentally appropriate
25+or is not in accordance with state standards.
26+This bill would prohibit classroom instruction
27+or discussions related to gender identity or sexual
28+orientation from being provided to public school
29+students in prekindergarten through twelfth grade.
30+This bill would prohibit public preK-12 teachers
31+and education employees from displaying a flag or
32+insignia relating to sexual orientation or gender
33+identity on school property.
34+This bill would also prohibit public preK-12
35+teachers and education employees from referring to a
36+student by pronouns inconsistent with the student's
37+biological sex at birth.

22-Relating to education; to amend Section 16-40A-5, Code
23-of Alabama 1975; to prohibit classroom instruction in public
24-school prekindergarten through the twelfth grade related to
25-gender identity or sexual orientation; to prohibit education
26-employees from displaying certain flags and insignia in public
27-preK-12 schools; and to prohibit education employees from
28-referring to a student by pronouns inconsistent with the
29-student's biological sex.
30-BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
31-Section 1. Section 16-40A-5, Code of Alabama 1975, is
32-amended to read as follows:
33-"§16-40A-5
34-(a) An individual or group of individuals providing
35-classroom instruction to students in kindergarten
36-prekindergarten through the fifthtwelfth grade at a public
37-K-12 preK-12 school shall not engage in classroom discussion
38-or provide classroom instruction regarding sexual orientation
39-or gender identity in a manner that is not age appropriate or
40-developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with
41-state standards.

78+BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

76-(b)(c) The State Board of Education shall adopt rules
77-for the implementation and enforcement of this section."
78-Section 2. This act shall become effective on July 1,
