19	19	SYNOPSIS:
20	20	Under existing law, persons are prohibited from
21	21	possessing certain firearms.
22	22	This bill would prohibit persons from possessing
23	23	a pistol with a part or combination of parts designed
24	24	or intended to covert a pistol into a machine gun
25	25	installed on or attached to the pistol.
26	26	This bill would also provide criminal penalties
27	27	for violations.

29	29	TO BE ENTITLED
30	30	AN ACT
31	31	Relating to firearms; to prohibit persons from
32	32	possessing a pistol that has a part or combination of parts
33	33	designed or intended to convert a pistol into a machine gun
34	34	installed on or attached to the pistol; and to provide
35	35	penalties for violations.
36	36	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
37	37	Section 1. (a) For the purposes of this section, the
38	38	term "machine gun" means any weapon which shoots, is designed
39	39	to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically
40	40	more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single
41	41	function of the trigger. The term shall also include the frame

71	71	function of the trigger. The term shall also include the frame
72	72	or receiver of any such weapon, any part designed and intended
73	73	solely and exclusively, or combination of parts designed and
74	74	intended, for use in converting a weapon into a machine gun,
75	75	and any combination of parts from which a machine gun can be
76	76	assembled if such parts are in the possession or under the
77	77	control of a person.
78	78	(b) No person shall knowingly own or have in his or her
79	79	possession, control, care, or custody a pistol that has a part
80	80	or combination of parts designed or intended to convert a
81	81	pistol into a machine gun installed on or attached to the
82	82	pistol.
83	83	(c) A violation of this section is a Class C felony.
84	84	(d) This section does not apply to any of the
85	85	following:
86	86	(1) A state or local law enforcement officer while
87	87	acting in an official capacity.
88	88	(2) A person who owns or has in his or her possession,
89	89	control, care, or custody a firearm, part, or combination of
90	90	parts that are registered in the National Firearms
91	91	Registration and Transfer Record maintained by the Bureau of
92	92	Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives or is otherwise not
93	93	subject to that registration requirement.
94	94	(3) Any part, combination of parts, or device designed
95	95	or intended to increase a pistol's rate of fire but that does
96	96	not enable a semiautomatic pistol to fire more than two shots,
97	97	without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger.
98	98	Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
99	99	1, 2025.
