SYNOPSIS:
This bill would require each local governing
body and local board of education to record each open
and public meeting of the body.
This bill would also require each local
governing body and local board of education to make the
recording available online within 24 hours after the
adjournment of the meeting, and provide instructions on
its website about how to view recorded meetings.
A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to counties and municipalities; to require
local governing bodies and local boards of education to record
each open and public meeting of the body and to publish the
recording online.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. (a) For the purposes of this act, the term
"local governing body" means the governing body of each county
or municipality and each local board of education.
(b) A local governing body shall:
(1) Record each open and public meeting of the

(1) Record each open and public meeting of the
governing body;
(2) Make the recording available to view online no
later than 24 hours after the adjournment of the meeting; and
(3) Maintain a notice on its public website describing
how to access the recorded meetings.
Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
1, 2025.
