19+SYNOPSIS:
20+This bill would authorize emergency medical
21+services personnel to transport a police dog that is
22+injured in the line of duty to a veterinary clinic or
23+hospital.
24+This bill would authorize emergency medical
25+services personnel to provide emergency medical care to
26+a police dog that is injured in the line of duty while
27+at the scene of the injury or during transport.
28+This bill would also immunize emergency medical
29+services personnel from liability arising from
30+providing emergency medical care in good faith to a
31+police dog.

2134 AN ACT
2235 Relating to police dogs; to authorize emergency medical
2336 services personnel to provide emergency medical care to
2437 injured police dogs and transport them to a veterinary clinic
25-or veterinary hospital; and to provide immunity from liability
26-arising from providing such medical care.

2740 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
28-Section 1. (a) This act shall be known and may be cited
29-as the Lakyn Canine Act.
30-(b) For the purposes of this section, the following
31-terms have the following meanings:
32-(1) EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PERSONNEL. The same
33-meaning as provided in Section 22-18-1, Code of Alabama 1975.
34-(2) POLICE DOG. Any dog with specialized training or in
35-the process of specialized training which is used by and under
36-the control of a federal, state, or local peace officer, Class
37-One Railroad Officer or special agent, firefighter, or any
38-member of the military in the performance of his or her
39-duties.
40-(c) Emergency medical services personnel may transport
41-a police dog injured in the line of duty to a veterinary

70+BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
71+Section 1. (b) This act shall be known and may be cited
72+as the Lakyn Canine Act.
73+(b) For the purposes of this section, the following
74+terms have the following meanings:

7588 (d)(1) Notwithstanding Section 34-29-76, Code of
7689 Alabama 1975, or any other law to the contrary, emergency
7790 medical services personnel may provide emergency medical care
7891 to a police dog injured in the line of duty while at the scene

8194 (2)Emergency medical services personnel who act in
8295 good faith to provide emergency medical care to a police dog
8396 pursuant to subdivision (1) are immune from criminal or civil
8497 liability as it relates to any injury or harm caused to the
85-injured police dog. Emergency medical services personnel are
86-also immune from criminal or civil liability for refusing to
87-treat or transport an injured police dog.
88-Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
89-1, 2025.
