18	18	Relating to Colbert County; to amend Section 45-17-230,
19	19	Code of Alabama 1975, to further provide for the compensation
20	20	of the sheriff.
21	21	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
22	22	Section 1. Section 45-17-230, Code of Alabama 1975, is
23	23	amended to read as follows:
24	24	"§45-17-230
25	25	(a) Commencing with the next term of office, the The
26	26	Sheriff of Colbert County shall receive total compensation of
27	27	fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) per annum payable from the
28	28	county general fund in equal installments in the same manner
29	29	as other county employees are paid. This compensation shall be
30	30	in lieu of any salary, monthly expense allowance, or fees paid
31	31	as compensation to the sheriff.
32	32	(b) Beginning October 1, 2025, the sheriff shall
33	33	receive an expense allowance to increase the sheriff's total
34	34	compensation to ninety-six thousand dollars ($96,000) per
35	35	annum payable from the county general fund in equal
36	36	installments in the same manner as other county employees are
37	37	paid.

68	68	(c) Beginning January 18, 2027, the sheriff's total
69	69	base salary shall be ninety-six thousand dollars ($96,000) per
70	70	annum payable from the county general fund in equal
71	71	installments in the same manner as other county employees are
72	72	paid. This salary shall be in lieu of the salary provided in
73	73	subsection (a), the expense allowance provided in subsection
74	74	(b), and any other salary, expense allowance, or fees paid to
75	75	the sheriff which shall be void.
76	76	(d)(1) Beginning October 1, 2025, the sheriff shall be
77	77	entitled to all uniform increases in compensation provided to
78	78	county employees.
79	79	(2) The amount of any uniform increase granted to the
80	80	sheriff shall be based on the sheriff's total compensation.
81	81	(3) Any uniform increase in compensation granted to the
82	82	sheriff during a term of office shall be paid as an expense
83	83	allowance until the start of the next term of office.
84	84	(4) At the beginning of each term of office, any
85	85	uniform increase in compensation provided to the sheriff
86	86	during the previous term of office shall be converted to
87	87	salary, and any converted expense allowance shall be void.
88	88	(e) Any expense allowance provided pursuant to this
89	89	section shall be treated as salary for retirement purposes. "
90	90	Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
91	91	1, 2025.
