15	15	SYNOPSIS:
16	16	This bill would authorize the Legislative
17	17	Council to contract for the demolition of the existing
18	18	building designated as the Alabama State House, upon
19	19	the completion of the new Alabama State House, and to
20	20	provide for the disposition of property and materials
21	21	that are attached or affixed to the building.
22	22	This bill would also authorize the Clerk of the
23	23	House of Representatives and Secretary of the Senate to
24	24	sell chairs, desks, and other items from the respective
25	25	chambers which will not be relocated to the new Alabama
26	26	State House.

30	30	Relating to the Legislature; to authorize the
31	31	Legislative Council to contract for the demolition of the
32	32	building designated as the current Alabama State House, upon
33	33	completion of the new Alabama State House; to provide for the
34	34	disposition of certain property and materials affixed to the
35	35	building; and to provide for the sale of items in the chambers
36	36	that will not be relocated to the new Alabama State House.

66	66	that will not be relocated to the new Alabama State House.
67	67	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
68	68	Section 1. (a) The Legislative Council may contract for
69	69	the demolition of the building located at 11 South Union
70	70	Street in Montgomery. The demolition shall occur upon the
71	71	completion of construction and designation of a new Alabama
72	72	State House.
73	73	(b)(1) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the
74	74	building may be demolished in a manner that provides for the
75	75	removal and disposition of any property or materials that are
76	76	part of or affixed to the building which may have some value,
77	77	regardless of whether any of the property or materials are
78	78	listed as state inventory. To effectuate this section, the
79	79	Legislative Council, Legislative Services Agency, Clerk of the
80	80	House of Representatives, and Secretary of the Senate shall
81	81	provide to the State Auditor a list of property and materials
82	82	to be removed from the inventory. Upon receipt of the list,
83	83	the State Auditor shall remove the property and materials from
84	84	the inventory.
85	85	(2) The property and materials described in subdivision
86	86	(1) may be reused, recycled, upcycled, sold, or disposed of,
87	87	as determined by the Legislative Council in a manner that is
88	88	fiscally responsible. Materials of de minimis value may be
89	89	utilized as the Legislative Council, Clerk of the House of
90	90	Representatives, and Secretary of the Senate deem appropriate
91	91	to commemorate the historic value of the building and to pay
92	92	tribute to the Legislature.
93	93	(c) The Clerk of the House of Representatives and the
94	94	Secretary of the Senate shall set the price of any desk,

124	124	Secretary of the Senate shall set the price of any desk,
125	125	chair, or other item used in the old chambers and not being
126	126	relocated to the new Alabama State House and may sell the
127	127	items to members and employees of the Legislature, in a manner
128	128	determined by the clerk and secretary.
129	129	Section 2. This act shall become effective on July 1,
130	130	2025.
