1515 SYNOPSIS:
1616 This bill would authorize the Legislative
1717 Council to contract for the demolition of the existing
1818 building designated as the Alabama State House, upon
1919 the completion of the new Alabama State House, and to
2020 provide for the disposition of property and materials
2121 that are attached or affixed to the building.
2222 This bill would also authorize the Clerk of the
2323 House of Representatives and Secretary of the Senate to
2424 sell chairs, desks, and other items from the respective
2525 chambers which will not be relocated to the new Alabama
2626 State House.

3030 Relating to the Legislature; to authorize the
3131 Legislative Council to contract for the demolition of the
3232 building designated as the current Alabama State House, upon
3333 completion of the new Alabama State House; to provide for the

3535 building; and to provide for the sale of items in the chambers
3636 that will not be relocated to the new Alabama State House.

6666 that will not be relocated to the new Alabama State House.
6767 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
6868 Section 1. (a) The Legislative Council may contract for
6969 the demolition of the building located at 11 South Union
7070 Street in Montgomery. The demolition shall occur upon the
7171 completion of construction and designation of a new Alabama
7272 State House.
7373 (b)(1) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the
7474 building may be demolished in a manner that provides for the
7575 removal and disposition of any property or materials that are
7676 part of or affixed to the building which may have some value,
7777 regardless of whether any of the property or materials are
7878 listed as state inventory. To effectuate this section, the
7979 Legislative Council, Legislative Services Agency, Clerk of the
8080 House of Representatives, and Secretary of the Senate shall
8181 provide to the State Auditor a list of property and materials
8282 to be removed from the inventory. Upon receipt of the list,
8383 the State Auditor shall remove the property and materials from
8484 the inventory.
8585 (2) The property and materials described in subdivision
8686 (1) may be reused, recycled, upcycled, sold, or disposed of,
8787 as determined by the Legislative Council in a manner that is
8888 fiscally responsible. Materials of de minimis value may be
8989 utilized as the Legislative Council, Clerk of the House of
9090 Representatives, and Secretary of the Senate deem appropriate
9191 to commemorate the historic value of the building and to pay
9292 tribute to the Legislature.
9393 (c) The Clerk of the House of Representatives and the
9494 Secretary of the Senate shall set the price of any desk,

124124 Secretary of the Senate shall set the price of any desk,
125125 chair, or other item used in the old chambers and not being
126126 relocated to the new Alabama State House and may sell the
127127 items to members and employees of the Legislature, in a manner
128128 determined by the clerk and secretary.
129129 Section 2. This act shall become effective on July 1,
130130 2025.
