1616 This bill would alter the official coat of arms

1919 TO BE ENTITLED
2020 AN ACT
2121 Relating to the state coat of arms; to amend Sections
2222 1-2-1 and 1-2-2, Code of Alabama 1975, to alter the official
2323 coat of arms of the State of Alabama.
2424 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
2525 Section 1. Sections 1-2-1 and 1-2-2, Code of Alabama
2626 1975, are amended to read as follows:
2727 "§1-2-1
2828 Alabama shall have an official coat of arms which shall
2929 be as follows: a shield upon which is carried the flags of
3030 four of the five nations which sovereigns that have at various
3131 times held sovereignty dominion over a part or the whole of
3232 what is now the State of Alabama: Spain, France, Great
3333 Britain, and the Confederacy Alabama itself. The union binding
3434 these flags shall be the shield of the United States. The
3535 shield upon which the flags and shield of the United States
3636 are placed shall be supported on either side by an eagle. The

7171 scroll containing the sentence in Latin: "Audemus jura nostra
7272 defendere," the English interpretation of which is "We Dare
7373 Maintain Our Rights." The word "Alabama" shall appear beneath
7474 the state motto."

7676 The coat of arms of Alabama as described in heraldic
7777 terms shall be as follows: arms: quarterly, the first azure
7878 three fleur de lis or (for France); second quarterly first and
7979 fourth gules a tower tripple towered or, second and third
8080 argent a lion rampant gules (for Spain); third azure a saltire
8181 argent and gules over all a cross of the last fimbriated of
8282 the second (for Great Britain); fourth gules of a saltire
8383 azure, fimbriated argent 13 mullets of the last (for the
8484 Confederacy) pure argenta crimson saltire imposed (for
8585 Alabama); at center in escutcheon chief azure paly argent and
8686 gules 13 (for the United States) arms supported by two
8787 American eagles displayed. Crest: A full rigged ship proper."
8888 Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
8989 1, 2025.
