25 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Larry Barnett was born the only child of |

26 | 25 | | Robert Horace Barnett and Hazel Louise Painter Barnett in |

27 | 26 | | Huntsville, on August 9, 1947; a graduate of Madison |

28 | 27 | | Academy, he attended Free Hardeman University and then |
---|
29 | 28 | | Tennessee Technological University; a proud veteran, he |
---|
30 | 29 | | served in the Army Reserve during the Vietnam era; and |
---|
31 | 30 | | WHEREAS, marrying Janice Tittsworth in 1968, he |
---|
32 | 31 | | wanted to remain in Huntsville and build his own retail |
---|
33 | 32 | | establishment; Larry's Pistol and Pawn was created in 1974 |
---|
34 | 33 | | just after the birth of their only child, Robert Noel; no |
---|
35 | 34 | | stranger to hard work, as he had worked numerous jobs since |
---|
36 | 35 | | he was nine years old, he loved the business of pawnbroking |
---|
37 | 36 | | and retail sales; and |

38 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Larry initially envisioned his business as a |

39 | 38 | | combination trophy, pawn, and gun shop, but his distinctive |

40 | 39 | | marketing approach led firearm sales to become the primary |

41 | 40 | | focus; in 1990, he expanded his North Parkway location, |
---|

73 | 72 | | 2015, he further grew the business with a second location |

74 | 73 | | along Interstate 565 near the iconic "Big Rusty Water |

76 | 75 | | collection of unique firearms, proudly displayed in his |

78 | 77 | | WHEREAS, Larry Barnett served as a founding member of |

79 | 78 | | the Huntsville Police Citizen's Foundation, actively |

80 | 79 | | supporting the families of fallen officers and those injured |

81 | 80 | | in the line of duty; during his service to the foundation, |

82 | 81 | | the first Fallen Officer's Memorial was paid for by donors |

83 | 82 | | and constructed at the Huntsville Police Department; Larry |

84 | 83 | | also supported federal agencies, such as the Federal Bureau |

85 | 84 | | of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, |

87 | 86 | | WHEREAS, he was the recipient of the 2009 SHOT |

88 | 87 | | Business Magazine Dealer of the Year, the most prestigious |

89 | 88 | | award for a firearms dealer; he also received the first ever |

90 | 89 | | Ruger Retailer of the Year, Taurus Firearms Retailer of the |

91 | 90 | | Year, Federal Ammunition Dealer of the Year, and the |

92 | 91 | | multi-time Retailer of the Year from Hornady Ammunition; and |

93 | 92 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife of 56 |
