2019 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
2120 death of Larry Horace Barnett of Huntsville, Alabama, at the
2221 age of 77; his departure leaves a void in the lives of his
2322 loving family, many friends, and the community where he was
2423 highly regarded; and
2524 WHEREAS, Larry Barnett was born the only child of
2625 Robert Horace Barnett and Hazel Louise Painter Barnett in
2726 Huntsville, on August 9, 1947; a graduate of Madison
2827 Academy, he attended Free Hardeman University and then
2928 Tennessee Technological University; a proud veteran, he
3029 served in the Army Reserve during the Vietnam era; and
3130 WHEREAS, marrying Janice Tittsworth in 1968, he
3231 wanted to remain in Huntsville and build his own retail
3332 establishment; Larry's Pistol and Pawn was created in 1974
3433 just after the birth of their only child, Robert Noel; no
3534 stranger to hard work, as he had worked numerous jobs since
3635 he was nine years old, he loved the business of pawnbroking
3736 and retail sales; and
3837 WHEREAS, Larry initially envisioned his business as a
3938 combination trophy, pawn, and gun shop, but his distinctive
4039 marketing approach led firearm sales to become the primary
4140 focus; in 1990, he expanded his North Parkway location,
42-adding a larger showroom and an indoor firing range; in

70+focus; in 1990, he expanded his North Parkway location,
7271 adding a larger showroom and an indoor firing range; in
7372 2015, he further grew the business with a second location
7473 along Interstate 565 near the iconic "Big Rusty Water
7574 Tower"; this location became home to his cherished
7675 collection of unique firearms, proudly displayed in his
7776 personal "museum"; and
7877 WHEREAS, Larry Barnett served as a founding member of
7978 the Huntsville Police Citizen's Foundation, actively
8079 supporting the families of fallen officers and those injured
8180 in the line of duty; during his service to the foundation,
8281 the first Fallen Officer's Memorial was paid for by donors
8382 and constructed at the Huntsville Police Department; Larry
8483 also supported federal agencies, such as the Federal Bureau
8584 of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
8685 Firearms and Explosives; and
8786 WHEREAS, he was the recipient of the 2009 SHOT
8887 Business Magazine Dealer of the Year, the most prestigious
8988 award for a firearms dealer; he also received the first ever
9089 Ruger Retailer of the Year, Taurus Firearms Retailer of the
9190 Year, Federal Ammunition Dealer of the Year, and the
9291 multi-time Retailer of the Year from Hornady Ammunition; and
9392 WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife of 56
9493 years; son, Robert Noel Barnett; grandson, Nicholas Tyler
9594 Barnett (Taylor); great-granddaughter, Sadie Jane; and one
9695 great-grandson expected in late summer; and
9796 WHEREAS, Larry Barnett's life was a testament to
9897 love, leadership, and service; he will be deeply missed, yet
9998 his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched;

131130 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
132131 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of Larry Horace
133132 Barnett is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution
134133 is offered to his family in tribute to his life and with
135134 heartfelt sympathy to his loved ones whose grief is shared
