1515 HJR___ CELEBRATING THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BLACK BELT
1616 TREASURES CULTURAL ARTS CENTER.
1717 WHEREAS, the Alabama Legislature takes great pride in
1818 recognizing organizations that significantly contribute to
1919 the cultural, economic, and educational development of our
2020 state; and
2121 WHEREAS, the Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts
2222 Center, located in Camden, Alabama, is a shining example of
2323 such an organization, proudly celebrating its 20th
2424 Anniversary of enriching Alabama's Black Belt region; and
2525 WHEREAS, established in February 2005, the Black Belt
2626 Treasures Cultural Arts Center operates as a nonprofit
2727 organization with a mission to invigorate the economy of
2828 Alabama's Black Belt region through the sale and promotion
2929 of fine arts and heritage crafts, as well as the provision
3030 of arts education opportunities; and
3131 WHEREAS, the center was born out of a collaborative
3232 tourism initiative spearheaded by the Alabama-Tombigbee
3333 Regional Commission, Ala-Tom Resource Conservation and
3434 Development Council, and The University of Alabama Center
3535 for Economic Development; and
3636 WHEREAS, the center proudly represents more than 580
3737 artists, including gifted authors, musicians, painters,
3838 sculptors, potters, basket-weavers, quilters, and

6868 sculptors, potters, basket-weavers, quilters, and
6969 woodworkers; these artists have collectively achieved over
7070 $2.27 million in sales through the center, which annually
7171 welcomes an average of 13,000 visitors to its gallery; and
7272 WHEREAS, the Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts
7373 Center has garnered national acclaim through staff
7474 presentations at professional conferences, features in
7575 respected publications, and numerous awards, further
7676 solidifying its status as a beacon of excellence in arts
7777 promotion and education; and
7878 WHEREAS, Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center
7979 serves as the centerpiece of an arts economy revitalization
8080 that involves artist development and arts education; it
8181 encourages residents and visitors to experience the arts,
8282 culture, and place; and
8383 WHEREAS, the center's dedicated staff and volunteers
8484 tirelessly engage with schools, civic organizations, and
8585 community arts groups, offering artist demonstrations,
8686 workshops, and presentations that inspire creativity and
8787 foster a deep appreciation for the arts; and
8888 WHEREAS, over the past two decades, the Black Belt
8989 Treasures Cultural Arts Center has become the cornerstone of
9090 an arts-driven economic revitalization, fostering artist
9191 development and arts education while inviting residents and
9292 visitors alike to explore and celebrate the unique culture,
9393 history, and artistry of the Black Belt region; now
9494 therefore,
9595 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
