16+TOMORROW DAY.
1717 WHEREAS, the State of Alabama recognizes the
1818 importance of honoring and commemorating the 250th
1919 anniversary of the founding of our nation; and
2020 WHEREAS, the events of 1775 that began the revolution
2121 the year before independence was declared are significant
2222 moments that signaled the creation of a national identity
2323 and unity of purpose that transcended national, geographic,
2424 cultural, and societal divides; and
2525 WHEREAS, on the evening of April 18, 1775, with
2626 impending hostile action from the British Army in Boston,
2727 Massachusetts, Paul Revere and William Dawes, along with
2828 other alarm riders, undertook a perilous ride to alert
2929 everyone in the countryside of the coming danger; and
3030 WHEREAS, preceding their departure from Boston, a
3131 prearranged signal was set in the Old North Church steeple
3232 to ensure that the message got out and did not solely rely
3333 on just one or two alarm riders; and
3434 WHEREAS, the two lanterns that were the signal were
3535 immortalized in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "Paul
3636 Revere's Ride" as "One if by land, and two if by sea" and
3737 have become an enduring symbol of American vigilance,
3838 perseverance, and preparedness in the face of adversity; and

68+perseverance, and preparedness in the face of adversity; and
6869 WHEREAS, we are reminded, 250 years later, that the
6970 call for unity and the call to serve each other is no less
7071 relevant today than it was then; and
7172 WHEREAS, a national initiative has been proposed by
7273 the United States Semiquincentennial Commission that two
7374 lights be displayed in public spaces across the country for
7475 all to see, marking that significant anniversary in April
7576 2025 and the beginning of the 250th anniversary
7677 commemorations leading up to Independence Day on July 4,
7778 2026; and
7879 WHEREAS, that the State of Alabama supports and
7980 encourages community events that promote patriotism, unity
8081 and reflection on our shared history; and
8182 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
8283 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we do hereby endorse the
8384 national initiative and proclaim Friday, April 18, 2025, as
8485 Two Lights for Tomorrow day in the State of Alabama and
8586 encourage reflection on the idea that all these historic
8687 events were endeavoring toward one common goal: the chance
8788 to embrace our God-given rights of life, liberty, and the
8889 pursuit of happiness.
