WHEREAS, it is with great pride and pleasure that we commend the Alabama Federation of Women's Clubs in recognition of its dedicated public service; and WHEREAS, organized in 1895, the Alabama Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC Alabama) was chartered into the international organization General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) in 1907; for 130 years, GFWC Alabama has worked to address the most pressing needs of our communities, the state, our nation, and globally; and WHEREAS, the 50 clubs and 1,200 members located in communities throughout the State of Alabama develop outstanding programs and projects to address common issues and concerns; some of the areas addressed through programs and projects include access to and support of the arts, education and libraries, natural resources preservation, support of veterans, public and individual health and wellness, child advocacy, and citizenship; and WHEREAS, the establishment of scholarships and libraries have been major focus areas for GFWC Alabama and local clubs; GFWC Alabama has been actively involved in the GFWC Signature Program, Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention; and 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 HJR21 INTRODUCED Page 2 Awareness and Prevention; and WHEREAS, GFWC Alabama is an organization made up of women from all walks of life and across generations who have a common goal of enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service; in this process, members grow in their understanding of issues and are enriched through their service further developing their talents and skills while establishing lifelong connections; and WHEREAS, the theme for the 2024-26 administration is "Living the Volunteer Spirit – Compassion in Action"; the President's Special Project is "Mental Health Matters" and focuses on increasing awareness about mental health concerns and striving to end the stigma associated with mental health illnesses while promoting the resources available in local communities, the state, and our nation; and WHEREAS, the 130th Annual Convention of the GFWC Alabama Federation of Women's Clubs is being held April 25-27, 2025, at the Montgomery Marriott Prattville Hotel and Conference Center at Capitol Hill where members will discuss common concerns, hear from experts in their fields, and conduct the business necessary to allow this organization to continue its 130-year legacy of enhancing the lives of others; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the Alabama Federation of Women's Clubs, which is comprised of thousands of women who have given of their time, talent, and resources, is honored and commended in recognition of its dedicated public service to this state over the past 130 years. 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50 51 52 53 54 55 56 HJR21 INTRODUCED Page 3 to this state over the past 130 years.
