20 | 19 | | Mary Sanders Ward after 63 years of devoted service to the |

22 | 21 | | WHEREAS, a native of Tallassee, Alabama, Mary began |
---|
23 | 22 | | her many years of public service on June 7, 1961, with the |
---|
24 | 23 | | Alabama Highway Department; thereafter, she served in |
---|
25 | 24 | | various capacities with the Alabama Public Service |
---|
26 | 25 | | Commission and the Department of Conservation and Natural |
---|
27 | 26 | | Resources; and |
---|
28 | 27 | | WHEREAS, she began her career with the Legislature |
---|
29 | 28 | | when she was appointed to work in the House of |
---|
30 | 29 | | Representatives by Speaker Jimmy Clark on March 31, 1987; |

31 | 30 | | she transitioned to working as a Front Desk Supervisor in |
---|
32 | 31 | | 1994 and was promoted to Supervisor of the House Journal |

33 | 32 | | Room on October 1, 1997; and |

34 | 33 | | WHEREAS, since becoming supervisor of the House |

35 | 34 | | Journal Room, she has been responsible for ensuring that the |

36 | 35 | | Journal of the House is an accurate account of the actions |

37 | 36 | | taken on the floor each session; she has served an |
---|
38 | 37 | | astounding 82 legislative sessions; and |

39 | 38 | | WHEREAS, the Journal of the House is the sole legally |

71 | 70 | | whenever there are questions regarding actions taken on the |

72 | 71 | | floor of the House; it is of vital importance that it be |

73 | 72 | | assembled and published without error; she would work day |

75 | 74 | | to the production of the Journal was completed to |

77 | 76 | | WHEREAS, capitalizing on her industriousness and her |

78 | 77 | | unfailing work ethic, Mary played an important role in |

79 | 78 | | developing the early computer systems and worked with |

80 | 79 | | developers tirelessly on the ALIS system which was used by |

81 | 80 | | the Legislature for over 25 years; most notably, her ability |

82 | 81 | | to quickly and expertly create macros enhanced employee's |

83 | 82 | | ability to perform their jobs more effectively; her computer |

84 | 83 | | savviness continued to serve her well as she spearheaded |

85 | 84 | | efforts to develop and implement LINX, the new legislative |

87 | 86 | | WHEREAS, she has had a front-row seat to many |

88 | 87 | | historical moments in the Alabama House Chamber; her |

89 | 88 | | expertise, legislative procedural knowledge, and rapport |

90 | 89 | | with the members of the House of Representatives has served |

91 | 90 | | as a catalyst for her successful career and positive impact |

92 | 91 | | on the legislative process; she immensely enjoyed assisting |

93 | 92 | | others with problems and tasks, and she was truly at her |

95 | 94 | | WHEREAS, a loving dog owner, she has engaged in |

96 | 95 | | numerous humanitarian efforts to improve the lives of pets |

97 | 96 | | in the Montgomery area; most recently, she daringly rescued |

136 | 135 | | WHEREAS, following her retirement, we know that she |
