20 | 20 | | we recognize Woodie Pugh, a consummate public servant whose |

21 | 21 | | dedication to education and public service has positively |

22 | 22 | | impacted Clarke County, the State of Alabama, and beyond for |

23 | 23 | | over five decades; and |

24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Woodie Pugh is a trailblazer in Clarke |
---|
25 | 25 | | County, having served as the county's first Black |
---|
26 | 26 | | Superintendent of Education and the first Black individual |
---|
27 | 27 | | to be elected to a countywide office in 2008; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, he devoted 30 years of service to Clarke |
---|
29 | 29 | | County's school system, initially as an agribusiness |
---|
30 | 30 | | education teacher at Clarke County High School from 1979 |
---|
31 | 31 | | until his retirement in December 2007; and |

32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, before running for Superintendent, he |

33 | 33 | | expanded his impact in education as Assistant Principal, |

34 | 34 | | Athletic Director, and Day Care Coordinator at West |

35 | 35 | | Oktibbeha County High School in Maben, Mississippi; and |

36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, he served as Superintendent of Education for |

37 | 37 | | Clarke County from January 2009 to December 2012 and later |

38 | 38 | | provided interim leadership as Superintendent for Wilcox |
---|
39 | 39 | | County in 2013 and Conecuh County in 2015; and |
