15	15	HR____ COMMENDING RYAN SANDERSON ON HIS SELECTION AS THE
16	16	ALABAMA SPORTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION CLASS 1A GIRLS BASKETBALL
17	17	COACH OF THE YEAR.
18	18	WHEREAS, with very special pleasure, Ryan Sanderson
19	19	is heartily commended for being named by the Alabama Sports
20	20	Writers Association (ASWA) as the Class 1A Girls Basketball
21	21	Coach of the Year for the 2024-2025 season, and we find it
22	22	necessary and proper to honor him for his many
23	23	accomplishments and efforts for the betterment of Alabama
24	24	students both on and off the field; and
25	25	WHEREAS, hailing from Brilliant, Alabama, Ryan
26	26	Sanderson graduated from Brilliant School in 2007; he holds
27	27	a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Athens State
28	28	University and a Master of Arts in Education Instructional
29	29	Leadership from the University of North Alabama; and
30	30	WHEREAS, in 2016, Mr. Sanderson accepted a position
31	31	teaching secondary special education at Brilliant School,
32	32	and he remained in that role until he assumed his current
33	33	position as Assistant Principal; and
34	34	WHEREAS, he coached the Varsity Boys Basketball Team
35	35	from 2016-2022; his first season coaching the team yielded a
36	36	record of 0-29, but under his expert leadership, his final
37	37	season was 15-10, with one sub-regional appearance in 2020;

69	69	WHEREAS, Coach Sanderson has coached the Varsity
70	70	Girls Basketball Team from 2020-Present; since the beginning
71	71	of his tenure, the team has shown continual growth and
72	72	improvement; his first season record was 3-17; they made a
73	73	sub-regional appearance the following season with an 18-12
74	74	record; and in 2024-2025 the season record was 24-12, which
75	75	is tied for the most wins in a season for the Varsity Girls
76	76	Team; and
77	77	WHEREAS, led by Coach Sanderson, the team made
78	78	history this year by becoming the first team from Brilliant
79	79	School, one of the smallest schools in the state, to ever
80	80	play for the state championship in any sport; the team ended
81	81	its historic season as runner-up in the 1A AHSAA State
82	82	Championship game; and
83	83	WHEREAS, Coach Sanderson has not only encouraged each
84	84	player to develop his or her talents to the fullest, but he
85	85	has also instilled in each student a valuable sense of
86	86	determination, perseverance, camaraderie, and school spirit;
87	87	his tireless dedication and exceptional ability has earned
88	88	him the genuine respect and admiration of many; and
89	89	WHEREAS, with athletic competition playing such an
90	90	important role in the total education of our young people,
91	91	we are overjoyed to pay tribute to Coach Ryan Sanderson; his
92	92	knowledge and integrity have brought pride to the Brilliant
93	93	School community; now therefore,
94	94	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
95	95	LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we heartily congratulate Ryan
96	96	Sanderson, the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 1A
