1616 HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACHES FOR WINNING THE
1717 2025 ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 1A STATE
1818 BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
1919 WHEREAS, we join the students, coaches, parents, and
2020 faculty at Robert C. Hatch High School in celebrating the
2121 Boys Basketball Team's Alabama High School Athletic
2222 Association (AHSAA) Class 1A State Basketball Championship;
2323 and
2424 WHEREAS, on February 27, 2025, at the BJCC Legacy
2525 Arena in Birmingham, the R.C. Hatch Bobcats took down the
2626 Brantley Bulldogs, 69-67, claiming its 11th AHSAA state
2727 basketball title in program history; and
2828 WHEREAS, the state title was an AHSAA-record 11th, as
2929 R.C. Hatch High School now holds the crown for the most
3030 state championships in AHSAA boys high school basketball
3131 history; they have won state titles in five different
3232 decades with titles in 1978, 1985, 1987, 1994, 1995, five in
3333 a six-year stretch from 2003-2008, and now, 2025; and
3434 WHEREAS, on a team filled with exceptional athletes,
3535 several players stood out with their game-changing play;
3636 tournament MVP, Isiah Thomas, finished with 17 points and 13
3737 rebounds, and he was 9-of-10 from the foul line; joining him
3838 on the All-Tournament Team are Theotis Dudley, who added 16

6868 on the All-Tournament Team are Theotis Dudley, who added 16
6969 points and six rebounds, and Merion Jones, who had 10 points

7171 quarter brought the large crowd to its feet; and
7272 WHEREAS, R.C. Hatch senior guard Lavonte Witherspoon
7373 was also a notable standout, sealing the victory by sinking
7474 two free throws with seven seconds remaining; he finished
7575 with 13 points, nine rebounds, and five assists; and
7676 WHEREAS, the R.C. Hatch High School Boys Basketball
7777 Program has been superbly coached and inspired by Head
7878 Varsity Coach Kris Hood and assistant coaches Sederick
7979 Benison, Jamaal Hunter, and Terry Pope; under their
8080 leadership, the players have broadened their knowledge of
8181 the game, refined their skills in execution, and
8282 strengthened the school's tradition of superior play and
8383 true sportsmanship; and
8484 WHEREAS, special commendations and appreciation are
8585 also extended to scorekeeper, Johnathan Jenkins; team
8686 trainers, Richard Bryant, Demarion Taylor, and Kaleb Hood;
8787 and team manager, Acie Brown; and
8888 WHEREAS, the talented members of the R.C. Hatch High
8989 School Boys Basketball Team are Marion Jones, LaVonte
9090 Witherspoon, Christopher Clark, Theotis Dudley, MaHari Mayo,
9191 Isiah Thomas, Frederick Wilson, Cortayvius Wilson, Jahah
9292 Jackson, William Jackson, and Ronzavian Lewis; together,
9393 they proved that "R.C. Hatch is Back"; and
9494 WHEREAS, the R.C. Hatch High School Bobcats'
9595 noteworthy success is a tremendous source of pride for their

129129 support have played a crucial role in motivating the team;

131131 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
132132 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the Robert C. Hatch High School
133133 Boys Basketball Team and coaches are highly honored and
134134 commended on earning the 2025 AHSAA Class 1A Basketball
135135 Championship Title, and we hereby dedicate this resolution
136136 to them with utmost admiration, along with best wishes for
137137 continued success in all future endeavors.
