16	16	HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACHES FOR WINNING THE
17	17	2025 ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 1A STATE
18	18	BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
19	19	WHEREAS, we join the students, coaches, parents, and
20	20	faculty at Robert C. Hatch High School in celebrating the
21	21	Boys Basketball Team's Alabama High School Athletic
22	22	Association (AHSAA) Class 1A State Basketball Championship;
23	23	and
24	24	WHEREAS, on February 27, 2025, at the BJCC Legacy
25	25	Arena in Birmingham, the R.C. Hatch Bobcats took down the
26	26	Brantley Bulldogs, 69-67, claiming its 11th AHSAA state
27	27	basketball title in program history; and
28	28	WHEREAS, the state title was an AHSAA-record 11th, as
29	29	R.C. Hatch High School now holds the crown for the most
30	30	state championships in AHSAA boys high school basketball
31	31	history; they have won state titles in five different
32	32	decades with titles in 1978, 1985, 1987, 1994, 1995, five in
33	33	a six-year stretch from 2003-2008, and now, 2025; and
34	34	WHEREAS, on a team filled with exceptional athletes,
35	35	several players stood out with their game-changing play;
36	36	tournament MVP, Isiah Thomas, finished with 17 points and 13
37	37	rebounds, and he was 9-of-10 from the foul line; joining him
38	38	on the All-Tournament Team are Theotis Dudley, who added 16

68	68	on the All-Tournament Team are Theotis Dudley, who added 16
69	69	points and six rebounds, and Merion Jones, who had 10 points
70	70	and seven rebounds; Jones' emphatic dunk late in the final
71	71	quarter brought the large crowd to its feet; and
72	72	WHEREAS, R.C. Hatch senior guard Lavonte Witherspoon
73	73	was also a notable standout, sealing the victory by sinking
74	74	two free throws with seven seconds remaining; he finished
75	75	with 13 points, nine rebounds, and five assists; and
76	76	WHEREAS, the R.C. Hatch High School Boys Basketball
77	77	Program has been superbly coached and inspired by Head
78	78	Varsity Coach Kris Hood and assistant coaches Sederick
79	79	Benison, Jamaal Hunter, and Terry Pope; under their
80	80	leadership, the players have broadened their knowledge of
81	81	the game, refined their skills in execution, and
82	82	strengthened the school's tradition of superior play and
83	83	true sportsmanship; and
84	84	WHEREAS, special commendations and appreciation are
85	85	also extended to scorekeeper, Johnathan Jenkins; team
86	86	trainers, Richard Bryant, Demarion Taylor, and Kaleb Hood;
87	87	and team manager, Acie Brown; and
88	88	WHEREAS, the talented members of the R.C. Hatch High
89	89	School Boys Basketball Team are Marion Jones, LaVonte
90	90	Witherspoon, Christopher Clark, Theotis Dudley, MaHari Mayo,
91	91	Isiah Thomas, Frederick Wilson, Cortayvius Wilson, Jahah
92	92	Jackson, William Jackson, and Ronzavian Lewis; together,
93	93	they proved that "R.C. Hatch is Back"; and
94	94	WHEREAS, the R.C. Hatch High School Bobcats'
95	95	noteworthy success is a tremendous source of pride for their

129	129	support have played a crucial role in motivating the team;
130	130	now therefore,
131	131	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
132	132	LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the Robert C. Hatch High School
133	133	Boys Basketball Team and coaches are highly honored and
134	134	commended on earning the 2025 AHSAA Class 1A Basketball
135	135	Championship Title, and we hereby dedicate this resolution
136	136	to them with utmost admiration, along with best wishes for
137	137	continued success in all future endeavors.
