1515 HR____ MOURNING THE DEATH AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF
1616 PATRICIA ANN PAUL WITHERSPOON.
1717 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
1818 death of Patricia "Pat" Ann Paul Witherspoon of Brighton,
1919 Alabama, on April 3, 2025, at the age of 74; her departure
2020 leaves a void in the lives of her loving family, many
2121 friends, and the community where she was highly regarded;
2222 and
2323 WHEREAS, Pat Witherspoon was born September 16, 1950,
2424 to Percy and Clariece Paul in Brighton, Alabama; she was the
2525 third oldest of six children; she accepted Christ at an
2626 early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brighton, where she
2727 was an active member; and
2828 WHEREAS, she later became a member of New Bethlehem
2929 Baptist Church, Bessemer; her 27 years of dedicated service
3030 to the church included: instituting the Welcome and Pastoral
3131 Support ministries, expanding the Youth Department, serving
3232 as Youth Director, Sunday School teacher, Usher Board,
3333 Missionary Society, and choir member; she later joined First
3434 Baptist Church of Brighton, where she continued to serve,
3535 chair, and grow ministries; and
3636 WHEREAS, her childhood education was centered in the
3737 Brighton Schools; after graduating from Brighton High School
3838 in 1968, she accepted a job with the Social Security

6868 in 1968, she accepted a job with the Social Security
6969 Administration in Bessemer; she matriculated at the Alverson
7070 Draughon Business College in Birmingham, Alabama, earning an
7171 Associate's Degree and completing her studies at the
7272 Birmingham Baptist Bible College; and
7373 WHEREAS, Pat's professionalism and work ethic granted
7474 her the opportunities to serve in various capacities which
7575 include, but are not limited to: Sales Team Supervisor of
7676 the Berry Company, in which she consistently exceeded her
7777 quota in sales; AT&T; Highland Memorial Gardens; and the
7878 Director of Jesus Christian Daycare & School; she was
7979 employed at Alabama Power Company for 27 years, serving in
8080 diverse roles such as, Human Resources, Public Relations and
8181 Advertising Specialist, Communication Specialist, and Yellow
8282 Page Advertising; she was a distinguished member of Who's
8383 Who Worldwide, the Teacher Corps, and worked with the Red
8484 Cross Blood Services, the 1996 Birmingham Olympic Soccer
8585 Organizing Committee, and the Legislative Appreciation
8686 Event, earning her the BSOC award; her most memorable moment
8787 was appearing in the Jet Magazine representing Alabama Power
8888 Company at the National Association of Black Journalists,
8989 establishing business and lasting personal relationships;
9090 and
9191 WHEREAS, beyond her service to the church and
9292 professional capacities, Patricia lived a life of caring for
9393 everyone, with an immense love for family and her fur
9494 babies, Pooh, Ivory, and grand-dog Kassie; her capabilities
9595 allowed her to turn every negative into a positive, and her
9696 strong faith in Jesus Christ helped her persevere in

127127 sickness and adversity; and
128128 WHEREAS, Patricia was preceded in death by her
129129 parents; brothers, Robert James Hawkins and Alvin Hawkins,
130130 Jr.; she will be lovingly remembered by her daughter,
131131 LaTunya Paul; sisters, Marcia Morrow, Deloris Luster
132132 (Erwin), and LaDonna Cotton (Darryl); nieces and nephews,
133133 Romey, Emanuel, Gloria, LaShay (Lynn), Jalaya, Darryl, Jr.,
134134 Kyndal, Kynidi, and Lauryn; and a host of family, friends,
135135 and loved ones; and
136136 WHEREAS, Ms. Witherspoon, a consummate leader who was
137137 classy and caring, poised and passionate, elegant and
138138 eloquent, and dependable and dedicated; her unwavering love
139139 for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ made a profound impact
140140 on the lives she touched; she believed, "If you desire to
141141 make a difference in the world, you must be different from
142142 the world"; now therefore,
143143 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
144144 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Patricia Ann Paul
145145 Witherspoon is recorded with deep sadness, and this
146146 resolution is offered to her family in tribute to her life
147147 and with heartfelt sympathy to her loved ones whose grief is
148148 shared by many.
