17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the |

18 | 18 | | death of Patricia "Pat" Ann Paul Witherspoon of Brighton, |
---|
19 | 19 | | Alabama, on April 3, 2025, at the age of 74; her departure |
---|
20 | 20 | | leaves a void in the lives of her loving family, many |
---|
21 | 21 | | friends, and the community where she was highly regarded; |
---|
22 | 22 | | and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Pat Witherspoon was born September 16, 1950, |
---|
24 | 24 | | to Percy and Clariece Paul in Brighton, Alabama; she was the |
---|
25 | 25 | | third oldest of six children; she accepted Christ at an |
---|
26 | 26 | | early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brighton, where she |
---|
27 | 27 | | was an active member; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, she later became a member of New Bethlehem |
---|
29 | 29 | | Baptist Church, Bessemer; her 27 years of dedicated service |
---|
30 | 30 | | to the church included: instituting the Welcome and Pastoral |
---|
31 | 31 | | Support ministries, expanding the Youth Department, serving |
---|
32 | 32 | | as Youth Director, Sunday School teacher, Usher Board, |
---|
33 | 33 | | Missionary Society, and choir member; she later joined First |
---|
34 | 34 | | Baptist Church of Brighton, where she continued to serve, |
---|
35 | 35 | | chair, and grow ministries; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, her childhood education was centered in the |
---|
37 | 37 | | Brighton Schools; after graduating from Brighton High School |
---|
38 | 38 | | in 1968, she accepted a job with the Social Security |

78 | 78 | | Director of Jesus Christian Daycare & School; she was |

79 | 79 | | employed at Alabama Power Company for 27 years, serving in |

80 | 80 | | diverse roles such as, Human Resources, Public Relations and |

81 | 81 | | Advertising Specialist, Communication Specialist, and Yellow |

82 | 82 | | Page Advertising; she was a distinguished member of Who's |
---|
83 | 83 | | Who Worldwide, the Teacher Corps, and worked with the Red |

84 | 84 | | Cross Blood Services, the 1996 Birmingham Olympic Soccer |

85 | 85 | | Organizing Committee, and the Legislative Appreciation |

86 | 86 | | Event, earning her the BSOC award; her most memorable moment |

87 | 87 | | was appearing in the Jet Magazine representing Alabama Power |
---|
88 | 88 | | Company at the National Association of Black Journalists, |
---|
89 | 89 | | establishing business and lasting personal relationships; |
